I'm not sure if this fragment is from a rehearsal or from the legendary "lost" Salt Lake City show, but it sure sounds like Dylan and Baez duetting on "Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts".

Someone needs to track the guy down in the video. Who is that?

Since I'm alone on Saturday night at ER, I brought this up over at:

I haven't heard yet, but I believe they rehearsed this at folk city for Porco's bday celebration before they hit the road.

Just guessing it was the Fall '75 rehearsals

That's a reasonable guess, which would mean that this recording is from October 1975, not 1976. Porco's grandson indicated in his post that it's from 1976, but that could have been a mistake.

Reply from Porco on blog:

"Can't add more than what I have relayed here...a full rehearsal clip exists somewhere but this snippet is all I could muster. Gotta wait for Bob to release it all someday. Clearly they were trying to get it ready for the stage but it appears it was too much to thrust upon Baez last minute."

That at least confirms that it's not the elusive Salt Lake City version.

It sounds nice regardless. Glad to hear it exists. I believe the film crew was there at the bday celebration. Maybe this was from some random compilation given to somebody on the crew.

If I'm not mistaken, wasn't If You See Her Say Hello and Sad Eyed from Renaldo and Clara also from these rehearsals?

I'll have to go back and give that a reread. The Ratso book should be a refresher. It's been to long. What a lovey find.

The way he words the response I wonder if this was snagged while reviewing something at the Tulsa archive.

Sounds great. Wish it would have been played live enough times for a good recording. It's so much slower than the album version, it would have been 10+ minutes live right?

Vocal doesn't sound like '75 to me.

Sounds like the period to me. I think the voice sounds similar to the acoustic Abandoned Love

Much more of this and I'm buying a ticket to Tulsa and breaking into the University.

Yes, and adds another kernel of info suggesting that the elusive performance actually did indeed take place. Rehearsal.
Thanks for sharing!

Personally I have no doubts that this song was performed at SLC.

My doubts focus on whether it was recorded. Surely Bob did so?

I think more doubtful is the rumored Black Diamond Bay performance

For me that might even be better than Jack of Hearts.

You can't have it all though, and life would be boring if you did.
