Lazy stadium night
Catfish on the mound
“Strike three,” the umpire said
Batter have to go back and sit down

Catfish, million-dollar-man
Nobody can throw the ball like Catfish can

Used to work on Mr. Finley’s farm
But the old man wouldn’t pay
So he packed his glove and took his arm
An’ one day he just ran away

Catfish, million-dollar-man
Nobody can throw the ball like Catfish can

Come up where the Yankees are
Dress up in a pinstripe suit
Smoke a custom-made cigar
Wear an alligator boot

Catfish, million-dollar-man
Nobody can throw the ball like Catfish can

I love Disc 3 of that first Bootleg Series and listen to it all of the time like it's a normal album, it has such a good flow.
John Bauldie suggested in his book that Catfish was probably a Jacques Levy led number. I'm not so sure of that...Bob loves baseball
and wrote a whole unused song about Kansas City in The Basement after all.
Regardless, I love this song!!
A late 70's dirty blues is always welcome for this Dylan fan and this one is no slouch.
I love Bob's smoky delivery and I especially love Sugar Red's killer harmonica.
He plays the opening harp riff on that great song Miss You from the Stones which is such a signature part of that number...

Anyway, here's Catfish:

Anyone else like this one?

Crap song, waste of space on the first BS 3 CD set.

That picture of that greasy 1970's baseball player with a wad of tobacco in his mouth just makes me hate it more.

This song has a cool feel but the lyrics are pretty boring and I am glad it was not included on Desire.

Has James "Catfish" Hunter ever commented about this song? Would love to know what his reaction was.

I don't like this song very much, but it fits well into the sequence of BS 3.
Joe Cocker recorded a good version of that song.

It's no Visions Of Johanna, but I still enjoy it for what it is, a "late 70's dirty blues". In fact, in terms of pure listening pleasure, I would go as far as to say I enjoy it, arguably, more than anything post TOOM. Arguably.

And, of course, Kinky Friedman did a nice cover of it during Rolling Thunder.

I really like the grungy, late night blues bar sound to it, but the lyrics are pretty weak to me. I enjoy it, just don't listen too closely

I read decades ago that he did not like the song, in fact, I believe he said he hated it. I cannot find the source for this, though.
