Greetings to all.

I understand that Sony released about 100 copies each set of years 1962-63-64-65-66 to extend the copyright issue in Europe.
to extend to 70 years.
as all of you know very limited copies have been posted on EBay at very expensive prices - most of us cant afford ( including me )
The other issue is because it is copyrighted by Sony - there is a very good chance you would get a letter from your server
if you download it ie : Torrent or otherwise. and face a fine.

So my question to the group
How can someone get a copy legally ??? ( CD-R included )
Also because it is copyrighted in Europe - Does that also cover North America ( US and Canada )

Would someone on the board be willing to share ????
I have "heard " that the May 17.1964 " Royal festival show is good - however not available on the net

Could those wise collectors ( and Lawyers ) make any suggestions of how to get a copy without being broke and not breaking any laws
Thanks
Greg :) :) :D :D
PM me if you want to help out or make friendly suggestions.

All that stuff is copyrighted in the US anyway, it's only under European law they had to renew it to retain the rights there.

I have a sealed spare copy of the 1964 set on vinyl. Feel free to make an offer.

for 65/66 the Cutting Edge 6 CD box will do (no need to buy the super super deluxe 18 CD version)

Not sure if they're supposed to be there, but a lot of tracks from the '62 set are on YouTube

I have the 6CD set, but in reality I think that the basic 2CD (which I also have) set is enough.

I have 2 of the 18 CD sets and one each of the 6 CD and 2 CD sets and it still isn't enough!

Sony promised "every note..." on the 18 CD set and we certainly didn't get that.

Everything recorded up to 31 Dec 1962 is in the public domain in Europe. Copyright protection releases for material recorded from 1 Jan 1963 but unreleased for 50 years have been made annually because of the changed European rules introduced in 2013, which also included extension of copyright in released material from 50 to 70 years.

1962 Copyright Collection (Very limited, 100 copies, 4 CD-R set - also briefly available in Europe as mp3 downloads):-

1963 Copyright Collection (Limited, 1000 copies, 6 LP set):-

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_50th_ ... ction_1963

1964 Copyright Collection (Limited, 1000 copies, 9 LP set):-

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_50th_ ... ction_1964

The 1965 and 1966 Studio Copyright Collection was The Bootleg Series Vol. 12 - The Cutting Edge Collector's Edition (Limited, 5000 copies, 18CD / 9 vinyl singles set):-

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bootl ... ck_listing

The 1965 Live Copyright Collection was an mp3 download given to purchasers of The Cutting Edge Collector's Edition. It contained 208 live tracks, but sadly not 01 October Carnegie Hall, nor 11 December San Francisco, nor the acoustic set from 12 December San Jose. It did contain the electric set from 12 December San Jose but labelled it 04 December Berkeley because it was thought to be that show until very recently. There were a number of other mis-labellings on this download.

The 1966 Live Copyright Collection is, of course, the Live 1966 Box, available to everyone at a staggeringly generous price.

A 1967 Copyright Collection could feature the rest of The Basement Tapes and the John Wesley Harding outtakes as well as the one-off unique mix of "If You Gotta Go, Go Now" released as a single in Europe. But it's looking increasingly likely that there won't be a 1967 Copyright Collection given that it's been stated that the JWH outtakes won't be released in any form.

I don't know for sure, but I think that they don't need to release the overdubbed "If you gotta go", just because all the takes were released two years ago on the Cutting Edge collectors edition. :?:

You're right, I'm sure they don't have to for copyright purposes, but it would be a kindly gesture if they did for those too young to have purchased it first time around. (That doesn't include me, of course...)

Thanks Pol2jem for detailed reply especially when you could have told me to get my lazy arse going and google it!

Those boxes look quite juicy, I wish I would have heard about them when they went on sale...

Of these collections, while I'm curious about much of it, the only one I sort of wish I had is the 18-cd Cutting Edge - despite being generally satisfied with the 6-cd version. But I'd like to have the hotel recordings disc, and to have had access to the 1965 live recordings, none of which I've ever heard, other than one version of "One Too Many Mornings" (which at least has the virtue of providing an evolutionary link between the album version and the Live 1966 live arrangement).

Thank you all for the information.
Copyright laws differ in each country, which can be interesting to navigate.

Is there not a trading list that collectors can recomend????
There used to be alot before the net .

Thanks
Greg

P.S. I am still trying to find the 1964 Anniversary collection on CD

Bob should release the collections in North America - I agree that the 1965 - 1966 period was well covered.
whether you have the 18cd version/6 cd version or deluxe version - it is interesting to follow Bob's evolution
of his classic years.
