I like these songs. They're beautiful. He puts together really nice arrangements and sings them nicely. I'm fine to have these for a long plane ride.

That's a good idea, I would find them ideal as I hate flying. Last flight I was on had Dylan on the inflight entertainment menu. What a blessing.

Terrific. The poet of a generation now relegated to long plane trips. Can the dentist office and elevators be far behind?

So, do we know what's included in the deluxe edition?

This is something I hoped was fake news. The guy who said he doesn't do nostalgia has now stunk the room out with 5 discs of it? First thought was, incredible, it's a late season burst of great songwriting activity. A triple disc!

Then I saw the crummy title and the crummy playlists. Seriously, WTF is this sh1t?

We all like the idea of Bob writing a new set of hearfelt songs; about missing his grandchildren or about life on the road or whatever he is experiencing. And I'm sure he can think of all sorts of credible reasons why those songs don't actually need to be written. People with intelligent minds are great at overthinking.

The basic problem is that for decades now he has been almost completely devoid of inspiration, or the desire to do much with it. Other than changing your lifestyle, there's not much you can do about that.

So by necessity, he's had to resort to the cut-and-paste technique that's been utilised on every original album since Love And Theft. And full credit to him for finding a way to keep on creating, keep on making things, without necessarily feeling he has anything much to say. Albums where "anything goes and you just have to believe it makes sense" in a world that "doesn't need any more songs". A professional finds a way.

I think the saving grace of these Sinatra-style albums is that Bob is taking them seriously. He's making an effort with them, he believes in them. And so they've been built on solid foundations. A new original album at this point would probably be the product of the same tired old routine, of self-consciously gluing bits and pieces together into some sort of unappealing Frankenstein's monster. Which admittedly could be fun to experience; but then again so can these earnestly-performed "cover songs".

Bob is nearly 76. Hopefully he'll be around for a long time yet and at some point will rediscover the fun in actually expressing himself in song lyrics. Until then, enjoy the journey while it lasts, as it could all be over tomorrow.

Thank you, Yellowgoat. Nothing wrong with 'sewing new dresses out of old cloth'! 'Love and Theft' is still my favourite album and I love all the subsequent ones too, even 'Together Through Life' which had a mixed reception as I recall (perhaps because it was a collaboration?)

The only good news in this Triplicate release news is that it's gonna be released in March. That leaves plenty of time for another release later in the year, and hopefully one stacked to its teeth with original songs...

Missing again: instrumentalist. I guess that means five CDs in a row without a harmonica showing up. :?

Yes, and as mentioned previously (even tonight) about the 30 songs left & here they are.

So, looks like Lanois is working on something secretive and new for Autumn.

Of course he likes the new album Posts this is his friend and client.

There is still time to finalize tracks, artwork, etc. before the Spring 2017 Tour Kicks Off

I preordered the deluxe vinyl because the chances of it selling out are high....

On Amazon I stumbled upon a deck of cards with a design known as Triplicate. I'm sure Bob knows that.

Is there a standard called PS I Love You or is that the Beatles song from Please Please Me?

I'm okay with this another "listen once - forget for ever" cover album if we get a new BS this fall. Whatever it will be, BS13 can't be worse than this. Even if it will be Gospel Years, which I don't like at all.

I'm with ya -- except maybe I'll bring along the Pentalogy (much better than Triplicate) to lull me into the hibernation I'll need until we have originals and this nightmare ends.

I agree, enough is enough already. I adored the first one like many did, but even Fallen Angels was one too many. Now this is just getting ridiculous. Would be truly sad if Tempest ended up being his final original album.

We sort of already knew about this --- but it still feels like a kick in my gut.

Kind of high expectations for a 75 year old. Plus he's just getting the hang of crooning; by this time he may be singing some of these in tune. I'm all for songbook rescue but some variation of the background instrumentation would be nice. The bones were OK but less weepy pedal steel and there must be some decent keyboard players in Hollywood. What's Herbie Hancock up to these days? Some harp would be welcome, too.
