Five of my favourite Dylan lines all come from the same song.

1. I've been wondering all about me ever since I seen you there

2. Your pearly eyes so fast and slashing, and your flashing diamond teeth

3. I got to laugh half-ways off my heels

4. The night is pitch black, come and make my pale face fit into place oh please

5. On the cliffs of your wildcat charms I'm riding

Ice cream would totally convince me to disarm and remove myself from the world of hatred.

Of course, it depends on the flavor.

I rarely scream, "I'm hip for mint chocolate chip!" anymore.

Allen Ginsberg most often quoted two songs when talking about Dylan and poetry. One was Gates of Eden--'the motorcycle black madonna two wheeled gypsy queen" and the other was A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall but from that song he'd usually just cite the opening "O where have you been my blue eyed son/where have you been my darling young one" as an example of Dylan's updating of ballad material, in this instance Lord Randall. OF course, Gates of Eden is the Dylan song most like Ginsberg's own poems (and not coincidentally most like William Blake as well) so it makes sense Allen would like it. In terms of its poetic dynamics, Gates of Eden is probably Dylan's strongest single song with dozens of superbly inspired lines.

My favourite Dylan line without question especially how he sings it live 66. It's hard to qualify his lyrical ability without its corresponding musical output.

"there was music in the cafes at night
revolution was in the air…"

or simply the best words ever put to music:

"the ghost of electricity howls in the bones of her face"

OR

"Jewels and binoculars hang from the head of a mule"
