Sorry, catnap, I thought it was responding to the poster that quoted you.

Ten miles outside the city / I'm lifted away / In an ancient light / That is not of day

I been to the east and I been to the west / And I been out where the black winds roar

The geometry of innocence flesh on the bone
Walkin' through the leaves fallin' from the trees
Purple clover, Queen Anne's Lace, crimson hair across your face
Disillusioned words like bullets bark
While he who sings with his tongue on fire, gargles in the rat race choir

My opinion is that the "blood on the tracks" lp was written with conscious poetic content. Also my opinion is that the cover of the lp is made to look like a book. (A book of poems what have you.)..
"Tangled" reminds me of Kerouac, for example "on the road".
Dylan of course used lots of stream of consciousness in the 60s, but this lp, to me, the imagery is tightened up and purposeful, as opposed to the looseness of the mid 60s stuff.

Right, that's the unconscious vs conscious thing.

I kinda miss my early self, too. Thing is I think I am still wherever the children go but who else follows?
Dylan said about BotT that he was fighting sentimentality down the line, (only to cover it up with the rerecordings, I think).

Was she a child or a woman? I can't say which.
One to another she could easily switch

Talked in the shadows, where they talked in the rain
I could tell she was still feeling the pain
pain of rejection, pain of infidelity

Then I felt it come over me, some kind of gloom
Thought, say, come with me girl, I've got plenty of room
But I knew I'd be lying and, besides, she had already gone
