The sweetest songs belong to lovers in the gloaming
The sweetest days are the days that used to be
The saddest words I ever heard were words of parting
When you said, "Sweetheart, remember me"

Remember me when the candle lights are gleaming
Remember me at the close of a long long day
It would be so sweet when all alone
I'm dreaming just to know you still remember me

You told me once that you were mine alone forever
And I was yours till the end of eternity
But all those vows are broken now
And we will never be the same except in memory

Remember me when the candle lights are gleaming
Remember me at the close of a long long day
It would be so sweet when all alone
I'm dreaming just to know you still remember me

A brighter face may take my place when we're apart, dear
A sweeter smile and a love more bold and free
But in the end fairweather friends may break your heart, dear
If they do sweetheart remember me

Remember me when the candle lights are gleaming
Remember me at the close of a long long day
It would be so sweet when all alone
I'm dreaming just to know you still remember me

I watched Don't Look Back again the other night and I smiled when he started singing this one:

Remember Me was written in 1939, and released by Wiseman and his wife/singing partner Myrtle Cooper under their stage names of Lulu Belle and Scotty on the Conqueror label in September 19 and 40. The song was the B-side to a now mostly forgotten Lulu Belle and Scotty tune, Did You Ever Go Sailing?
Here it is:

Bob actually recorded a full version when he was staying at The Gleasons which is beautiful:

Anybody else like this one???

Beautiful! I recently heard this for the first time on belleseb32's "Ghost of Woody Guthrie" compilation, and it immediately became one of my favorite tunes of the era.

I love this song. First heard it by Willie Nelson. Those photos of Bob and Suzie on the youtube video are priceless. So, so young.
