If your answer is "None of the above", please name your favorite

This poll should really have asked "Which is your second favourite cover of a Dylan song?" Either that or classify Hendrix's Watchtower as an "uncover".

The best cover song keeps the integrity of the original while adding the personal flair of the performer. That's why Hendrix did it best.

But one that's not on the list that I find surprisingly good is Falco's version of It's All Over Now, Baby Blue.

This.

My second favourite cover is "You're gonna make me lonesome when you go" by Madeleine Peyroux. Some people will call this version muzak, I call those people heartless.

Btw: "Baby Blue" is not Van Morrison but Them. Ordnung muß sein.

I voted When I Paint My Masterpiece from the Band. Most of the Dylan versions I've heard haven't really done much for me (other than the piano demo). This is totally their song. Second and third from this list would be Garcia's "Simple Twist Of Fate" and Harrison's "If Not For You". Another one that's up there-- that wasn't included on this list-- is Blake Mill's "Heart Of Mine".

How can anyone make a list of Dylan cover artists and not include Jess Greenberg's version of Watchtower?

I'm pretty sure there are some Van versions without "Them."

Missing from the poll:

Numerous Grateful Dead covers, notably 'Its all Over Now Baby Blue'
Jerry Garcia covers, notably 'Visions of Johanna' and 'Tangled Up In Blue'
Billy Joel 'Make You Feel My Love'

I don't know why exactly, but
Ramblin Jack's cover of Don't Think Twice
has always been my fave....

I've always just been very moved by it:

I like Iron and Wine's cover of "Dark Eyes", but I think Hendrix's version of "Watchtower" is the best.

Rosalie Sorrels cover of 'Tomorrow is a Long Time' from the compillation album "A Nod to Bob on His 60th Birthday"

Jimi Hendrix' cover of 'All Along the Watchtower' would make #1 on my list of "Most Overrated Songs of Alltime"

P J Harvey's take on "Shot Of Love."

I really love Nancy Griffith's take on "Boots of Spanish Leather," but I agree completely with the post above regarding Hendrix and Watchtower. There is no way around it.

Pressing On from "Im Not There" is right up there ... I love Alicia Keys version of it too.
The gospel songs have been covered very well, in general.

The album "Dylan's Gospel" also has great covers.

Yeah, hard not to pick Jimi's Watchtower. My 2nd would be Van's Baby Blue.
Garcia's TUIB and Senor would be up there too.

I would pick Adele, not just because she is a great singer and does a great cover version, but simply because it's the most successful cover of a Dylan song of this century. Now you can hear it on every talent casting show of every tv station on the planet. It possibly introduced a whole new generation to the songs of Bob Dylan (even though most people don't even know it's a Dylan song).

There once was a austrian singer/Songwriter called Wolfgang Ambros, he did a very, very good Cover-Album in 1978. It's called "Wie im Schlaf"
Secretly, this is my favourite collection of Bob Dylan Covers! But don't tell anybody!

People have been tarred and feathered for less

But I admit that it's slightly better than Niedecken's attempt.

Hanns, actually it was ambros who brought me to dylan. after hearing "wie im schlaf" i bought "at budokan". From then I was lost...
It is unbelievable was für ein dämlicher, versoffener sack ambros geworden ist!

Oh well... actually I think that his best song - G'söchta -perfectly applies to himself nowadays.

(But isn't it a pitty that Ostbahn Kurti / Günter Brödl never tried a Dylan cover? I mean they've managed to better some Springsteen lyrics!)
