Shalom & Boker tov...

Sometime within the past 5 years, or so, someone in Cyberia sat down and made copious notes from Al Kooper's private tapes of the Nashville Blonde on Blonde sessions, on various takes etc. It was not especially well-written -- its stultifying ignorance of Yehu'dit kabbalistic paradigms renders it vapid -- but did provide some interesting insights into the dynamics within the studio. This is not mentioned either by Sean Wilentz 2009, nor Clinton Heylin's 2009 monographic excursions. Mr Heylin's scholarship is often unparalleled in discerning sequences, but I remain profoundly disappointed in his surprising lack of knowledge of Torah-Talmud-Kabbalah, his dismissal of the permutations of Tarantula, and, specifically, with his shocking obliviousness to the apostasies of 1978-1980 (I was there, heard what was spit out from the stage).

Does this piece sound familiar to anyone?

The Bob Johnston angle would be great to read, if there's more from his perspective. But there's only so much Kooper a Dylan fan can stand. And I fell out of line when his LARS legend fell apart in my eyes. Keeping Hudson off and Griffin marginalised on Blonde on Blonde was Bob's call but I sense Kooper had Dylan's ear on some of those decisions. Better "sales patter" compared to the other quieter gentlemen of the ivories. I'd really like to know is what on earth happened to Paul Griffin. He had other gigs and sessions probably but on the 25th January his piano part on Sooner or later is the last thing he does. Even 36 hours later and they are struggling (with Bob as piano player incidentally) to get Keep it with mine nailed.

I think all true archaeologists of the Blonde on Blonde Nashville sessions have held this to be true for the longest time. It's a talking point that simply won't go away.

Shalom & boker tov...lowgen: obviously. Above my desk where I write, I have Barry Feinstein's wonderful photograph of Bob and I together 3 January 1974, sitting on the couch on stage in Chicago (there were others, but this is my cherished favourite). Robbie Robertson talked briefly to us, and Bill Graham ('Wolf' to me) was sitting nearby with coffee for us.

I'm curious how Rainy Day Women fits into the "Kabbalistic paradigm".

Shalom & Boker tov, 'chromehorse'...your question is in need of a non-baiting diplomat answer. As we are taught in Tosefta Megilla 3.21 (my translation): One who translates literally creates fiction; one who revises blasphemes. I appreciate your concern.

Thanks for the confirmation. You and I met many years ago, and I knew that whoever I named, you would say "yes".

It's a story I often tell about you- funny- and touching in it's own way. :)

What is 'going on'? A good question, yes? I am reminded of Victor Hugo, who said 'Imagination is the mind with an erection'...or what one learns in the Kabbalah: questions are symbols of Ayin-Sof, no-thing-ness, infinity -- wiping out all sense of 'time', destroying all memory of a beginning, and all fear of an end.

Who knew that on a quiet Sunday we would witness the most sophisticated "one up" attempt ever perpetrated on this site! Just when you think you've heard it all - an entirely new paradigm shift!

I saw this thread late last night after a budweiser or three, I thought I was going crazy...

I had to read the opening paragraph about 3 times to realise what was going on, I've just re-read it and I'm still not entirely sure what's being discussed here!

Here's link to more of his online back and forth on another site. He's an interesting cat, no doubt about it!

My thoughts after reading the posts just linked to are: taken at face-value, a learned and well-connected guy for whom contradictory arguments seem to be ammunition for his doctrine. Just remain polite and stay positive about Bob. I regret parts of my first post for this reason.
I don't find the ornate language a problem; quite the contrary.

To be in on the joke but not necessarily play up to it is an alternative.
