"Another Side of Bob Dylan: A Personal History on the Road and off the Tracks" by Victor & Jacob Maymudes.

Has anyone actually read this book?

I'm very excited about the release of this one. No date yet for pre-order. :(

I of course have not read this but I did listen to the recordings that were on line a while back. The tapes that I believe are the basis for this book. From that I think either they are going to clean it up or some people are going to be pissed off. He does not seem to respect women very much. Maybe they could enclose a map to his grave so they know where to go to spit on it  I think it might be a book that is about 30 years past its prime. There are some stories after a certain amount of time that should be left untold. But I am sure someone will make a bundle of money off it.

You got it in one, Lily. Defamation and libel writs are to be issued. It is common knowledge that VM has axes to grind and, at the rate this one's going, they may well end up buried in his head! This could make Weberman look like a kindly old uncle.

Hmmm! Sounds nasty! I guess we'd better not expect this release anytime soon!

It was originally hyped as such by Maymudes himself, said he was going to demolish the Dylan myth, shock the fans, destroy Bob. I paraphrase but you get the drift. It seemed at the time it was to be attempt at extortion or revenge, or both.

Things may have changed in the meantime, it'll certainly be more lawyer conscious that those early threats but the recordings it is based on were horrific - inaccurate, contradictory, paranoid, stealing writing credit and frankly disgustingly sordid and misogynistic.

No, before Maymudes died they sat him down and recorded him talking for hours upon hours so that they would have all the "Material" they needed.

A couple of the recordings were on line for a while. When they were looking for financial backing for the book. The were hard to hear clearly, and sounded like they were walking while recording a conversation. He sounded a lot like that guy you don't want to sit down next to you at a concert. One too many years being the guy who does the most drugs.

He for sure was confused about what songs were written when. Even on the two tapes that were out there were major mistakes. Enough so you wonder about the value of memories. And as I remember he was what I call slimy in his comments about certain women. Made me think of the saying 'those that can, do and dont need to say anything. Those that can't pretend and brag about it'

In the book, Victor Maymudes refers to a show in Wisconsin when there was a power outtage and the crew and band left the stage but Bob remained and started playing drums whilst the crew attempted to get the power back up. Then the band members come back and play whatever they can without power.

Anyone know what show this was??

Bjorner says there was a power outtage during the show Dane County Memorial Coliseum on August 4th, 1989. I guess this must be the show Maymudes talks about.

Yes, that must be the one, because the set restarted with Shelter.
Thanks for the detail.

Just finished reading.
I quite like this book, as well as Britta Shain's Seeing the Real You At Last.
Both Victor and Britta took a very long time to finally start writing.
Another Side ends in such a sad way it almost drive me into tears.
