It was a HUGE rush, wasn't it? . . . that downbeat and the organ coming right in. Sounded like nothing anyone had ever heard before.

Tangled Up in Blue (or maybe all of Blood on the Tracks). I had developed an appreciation of Dyly the songwriter. It was not that I did not like his singing, but one day I was playing it and a huge light went off in my head.

based on the ordering - it was BITW, because I often skipped Rainy Day. on the same album, Positively 4th street, I want you, and LARs all effectively blew me a way (listening to joey right now, hah!) I do taking a family road trip shortly after becoming enlightened, and became ecstatic whenever dylan came on the radio. I remember when 4th street happened on the way to the family waterpark. i don't remember the waterrides from the same experience.

Just like a woman from The Concert for Bangladesh, next one was Love minus zero/No limit from the same concert.

The first song that turned me onto Dylan was in fact Donovan's 'Catch the Wind'. I had heard it on the TV program called the 'The Wonder Years'. I thought it was Dylan and bought the casette 'Down in the Flood' because it had 'Blowing in the Wind' on it which I presumed was the song I had heard from the show. The greatest mistake I ever made. haha.

If not for you, the single. I played it every morning to start my day, before going to schhool. I didn't even know who sang it.

I Want You. Still love it, such an addictive melody.

I remember that episode. Almost made me cry. There was another episode of that same show which included The Times They Are-A Changing, one of my first encounters with a Dylan song.

i just found an old mix i did like 4 and a half years ago, when i decided i was getting into dylan.
it had 9 songs, mostly from the 60's.

but it was a performance what got me into dylan, and it was the night he went electric, as seen in NDH, i dont even remember which song was, i just remember thinking: "this is it."

Yes I remember 'The Times They Are a Changing' in one of the episodes. Like you I have fond memories of that show. Great themes and tunes.

Love Minus Zero.
I heard a band play this song in December 1967 . I had never ever heard such amazing lyrics. It is still my favourite Dylan song.

For me it was probably Baby Stop Crying.

This got some radio play when it was released as a single in 1978. I don't know what it was about it that made me want to know who Bob Dylan was - probably the voice that sounded so dead on cool. I had no access to music at the time apart from what was played on the radio. I also remember seeing the sleeve of Street-Legal in a shop window and I thought the guy in the picture was just that bit cooler than anyone on any other record sleeve. I don't know if I knew that Baby Stop Crying was on that album then. So this was my point of entry. I was coming up to being sixteen.

Three years later I purchased a record player and soon enough I had Street-Legal on vinyl - it was the 23rd record that I bought. (Blood On The Tracks was number 17.)

But before buying any recotrds, I bought Writings And Drawings. I absolutely devoured it. I was at the age where I could be really blown away by new stuff. So I actually read most of Bob's songs before I ever heard them.

In my uncle's car on a trip with the family. He had a single tape mixed down from Biograph. Tangled Up In Blue hit me with such sadness. I think that was the first. I think my dad bought me H61 after that. If not, it was everything on H61, especially Desolation Row.
