In Dylan's famous Letterman performance of Jokerman, found here, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwdUwxhj ... re=related, Letterman says "once again, Bob Dylan". Anyone know what Bob played first?

"Don't Start Me Talkin'" (a Sonny Boy Williamson song) and "License To Kill". "Jokerman" was the third and last song.

Charlie Quintata said they rehearsed a whole pile of songs for the Letterman show really quickly on the fly, before they arrived at the setlist for that appearance.

I love Bob's Don't Start Me Talkin' from that show, I have it on DVD.

I was just thinking of 'video' in the broadest sense. Something vs. nothing.

The whole show (and all the reheasal footage) is "out there" somewhere. If not on Youtube or other online sources, then on privately circulated DVD's (but don't ask me, the VHS tape I used to have of the rehearsal and TV performance is now gone).

yeah, i relly dug the version they did, punky and all, but then you hear the dolls version four or five years earlier and you think well, that was just a copy bob did (a copy of a copy - we are in baudrillard's world)

Well, he was playing with punk musicians and it was a song they both knew. Bob knew the Sonny Boy version, the musicians the New York Dolls version, so you could say they found some common ground.
