Is this new? I've never heard it. Amazing. A pity they cut the instrumental portions-this is a most stunning listen. Dylan's gtr is clearly audible but it's the same vocal track as the release. Similiar to the Going going Gone that was on GBS4 (which some say is an alternate take) but I don't hear any band leakage on this one, plus he plays gtr all the way through.

Well this is certainly an interesting one. Seemingly the Minnesota version and apparently ripped from the Rock Band 2 game. The poster states that when Dylan stops singing, his guitar stops too, hence he cut out the silences between verses.

Cheers

Interesting, but even in that take it doesn't sound like he stopped playing, it sounds like they muted the track for purposes of mixing it into the final production. I'd sure love to hear a full "solo" version of this. There's been some talk of a Blood On The Tracks bootleg series release, I wonder if that stems from that project. Could we be so lucky as to get several or all of the album tracks this way? If I had better word I'd use it, but stunning seems to be hands down the best one.

I guess that setttes it...I didn't know this game gave you the ability to create such a mix...I sure wish we had the whole thing.

On various "naughty" download sites, there are tracks a plenty of the various mixes taken from The Beatles Rock Band game. There are literally hundreds of different permutations that can be squeezed from the game. There are people who have done just that and gone on to complile multi-disc sets.

Can you imagine a Bob Dylan Rock Band game where you could take apart and reconstruct his back pages!

Cheers

Here's a zip file containing some mp3s:

The drum track
The bass track
Bob's guitar (with some vocal bleed)
The vocals + the other guitar parts
An "acoustic" version of the song that I made from the last two (ran a center channel extract on the vocals to get rid of the other bits)

I tried making a NY sessions style version (acoustic guitar + bass), but the bassline really is pretty dull. Just load the 4 tracks into something like Audacity and make your own mix.

There's loads of multitracks floating around now because of Rock Band

Thanks Jon. Cool stuff. Is this the only Dylan track on Rock Band?

This is pretty sick. I love hearing the detail of the vocals, which you can't really distinguish when the full band is there.

The game doesn't let you create mixes. The game presents the player with a number of visual cues, each one representing a note that must be played, if you don't press anything you don't hear anything (likewise with the drum/bass tracks).

Here, someone has used their technical know-how to access the content on the disk using their PC and ripped the vocal track (The same theoretically could be done with the guitar track, although it would probably take much longer as it's no doubt split into hundreds of different pieces).

EDIT: The reason we can still hear some guitar during the vocal segments is because the sound is bleeding into the vocal track through the mic and is therefor much harder to remove.

No doubt the makers of the game (and not the youtube uploader) cut all guitar sound from the remaining sections so that the player would not hear the guitar if he missed a note or two (meaning the likely hood of us getting a full version of this is vastly diminished).

This fairly spotty execution (in game that is), is no doubt one of the reasons why we have only ever gotten one Bob song in the entire Guitar Hero/ Rock Band history.

Maybe.

EDIT the 2nd: Also, I would pay top dollar for "Bob Dylan Rock Band".

I'm sure that Dylan hates this kind of cannibalism. If he gets to know of this you will never see any other Rock Band track from Dylan.

This is fascinating, dare I say revelatory! The chance to hear and mess around with multi-tracks infinitely. I envision all music, or at least classic albums, being released this way some day.

Thanks to Jon for the mp3s.

Movies too I hope... Some films have such terrible soundtracks/scores I'd like to turn them off if I want to.

Actually in the latest Guitar Hero they have All Along the Watchtower (by Dylan), not sure if vocals only of that has been ripped, wouldn't know how to myself.

This is amazing. I had no idea how forceful the vocal was.

Is it possible to do this with All Along The Watchtower?

my god he sings his ass of on this song. this has got to be one of the highlights of my dylan obsession. i know one of the games used Watchtower, it would be neat to hear that too...just bobs voice and that whaling harp (assuming it was recorded on the same track in the studio). Now since i have the supper club soundboards my holy grail would be a Dylan Rock Band game and a very smart hacker. :-)

Yea Guitar Hero does have All Along The Watchtower. I don't own the game unfortunately though. Just for the record Bob I imagine would be all for more Rock Band/Guitar Hero tunes. He had worked with Harmonix (the creators of Rock Band) on choosing Tangled Up in Blue for the game. The thing is, most people I know that play the game hate playing Dylan because the instrumentation isn't extremely interesting for a video game. Dylan also doesn't have the sort of party appeal that The Beatles have obviously (which makes up for sometimes boring instrumentation). Boring in the context of playing in a video game.

It would be amazing to get other songs like this tho.

great stuff, jon. thanks. but it sounds like the youtube vocal track -- with the pauses -- is not in your bundle. can anyone get that?

edit -- also: does this solve the "dark sad night" question? i'm still not truly sure.
