"Things Have Changed" always reminds me of Cohen's "The Future" and Chris Rea's "Road To Hell".

It differs in one way from each of these songs - it is much better song. Stolen or improved?

Here's Roy Harper explaining why we really shouldn't be worried about this.

true, just like so many beatles, stones and beach boys songs sorta remind me of chuck berry.
its no crime to remind one of something.

I like Things Have Changed; it suffers in comparison to The Future.

Here's Duane Eddy and Marty Stuart performing "40 Miles of Bad Road" together: http://youtu.be/uyrAJAUarpQ

yea scott - i saw that too yesterday - priceless the tension, great, guess Marty bringing him up was a way to say thank you - i mean out of all the songs to play - coincidence?.... - it's Nashville - coincidence is another word for song writing isn't it? -

go for it Duane - Marty's a trip, very complicated guy, devout in all ways

duane needs a few props... - and he got it himself from that center of the universe Sun in Memphis too - took it and became an icon

It's not like Dylan apologizes for this stuff. How much of what he's written in the past 15 years can really be called his own? Melodic originality is not required, or really preferred, in his particular art form. And I always thought when he borrows lyrics he's actually calling attention to the sources. Yes, THC is a particularly clear steal, but not the first. Maybe at the core Dylan's just a really brilliant thief.

Does the album release sound the same as this? THC is embarrassingly close. Observations of a Crow released June 1999, THC released May 2000. Going by this youtube performance I'd say THC is even closer to it than My Sweet Lord ever was to He's So Fine. Naughty Bob.

I doubt Marty finds himself so clever to use that melody and arrangement around a generic minor blues progression.
