Since Mr. Barefoot came up with that song: A duet on Neighborhood Bully with Mr. Peres seems natural, no?

Did they give this honor to Joanie yet? She's probably at least tried to do sth for world peace.

As a non-US ER member, thank you, Revelator, for the information you provided. This is indeed an honour for Bob, but so sad that some of these are awarded posthumously.

that of course was very useful for this home-bread American who has suffered through its history curriculum in the public school system, thank you Rev.

And congratulations to Bob, as well as to the others listed here.

I wonder if he will strap it around his oscar and travel with it.

No, it's only gone to (musical) artists like Sinatra, Aretha, Irving Berlin and, now, Bob. :)

What did Sinatra do for world peace? I'm not that familiar with his history.

he must've received it for this:
"to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors"
not world peace. but sinatra was ahead in terms of civil rights--refused to sing racist lyrics, wouldn't sing for segregated audiences etc. was also a key supporter of jfk. lost it in the 80s, though, he fell for reagan & even sang in apartheid south africa.

Later this year (no date yet).

At the White House, the President will hang a medal around his neck in a ceremony with the other recipients.

Good point. Sinatra also raised plenty of money for charity in his time. Plenty of other celebrities raised as much or more but they didn't have his talent, and the talent can't be argued. There have been some strange choices for the Medal of Freedom, and politics plays a part in who gets chosen. But if you look at the list of people who have received the medal in all categories, it's a daunting list of people.

Just went looking....they were given out in February last year. I think they might try to work out schedules to get everyone there to accept their awards in person. And late May early June would seem to fit in with the NET schedule. I expect we can get to see Mr. D. visiting again with his friend the Prez.

From an article on the front page, there is some speculation that this might help in the question of getting the Nobel ..... that would be nice!!!! :D

The author of that article has a book coming out.... this is the note at the bottom of the article:

Jon Friedman is the author of “Forget About Today: Bob Dylan’s Genius for (Re)invention, Shunning the Naysayers and Creating a Personal Revolution,” which Penguin will publish in August.

Holy cow, batman, with a title like that I am going to have to give that book a dance for sure!!!! :P

if he does show up, he's gonna be sooo uncomfortable. I've seen some of the previous ceremonies and it's lots of people all sitting closely together with cameras all around. They should put him between the first lady and Toni Morrison, maybe that'll help. But if he doesn't go, I bet one of his sons will, maybe Jesse.

I hope he goes himself. He's been to the Whitehouse before with the Obamas so why not. It seems to be a great honour. Is it like a knighthood in the UK?
