Bob Dylan's 115th Dream is definitely my favorite

Talkin John Birch Paranoid Blues is my 2nd favorite, but it's a pretty distant 2nd from 115th dream.

Talkin Bear Mountain Massacre Picnic Blues...I think that's it. I may have added a word, or put a word in the wrong order, but it's something like that, I could go grab my CD and make sure, but I don't feel like it.

Unreleased basement tapes sessions, or a tree with roots.

I also like if you gotta go go now....particularly live when u hear the crowd laugh.

The one with 'do it all over you' is quite funny too.

Po boy deserves mention

I know Benny's a troll and all, but this ain't the case. Some of Dylan's press conferences over the years have revealed him to be very funny, and as intentionally as any comedian. His timing is always perfect. The Hearts of Fire conference comes to mind, and many others.

And his jokes between songs in the 60s, even the electric shows in '66, showed what a great comic he is.

And as a reversal, he used his comic abilty to great effect at the Grammies when he did that speech about what his daddy had told him, when he suddenly switched tack from comic to serious, totally disarming the audience.

It's not often Ben talks total bollocks - but he's hit the jackpot this time.

Brian - there are more zingers in BBC News At Six than in the entirety of Dylan's recorded output.

While I agree that Dylan's press conferences are amusing, they basically boil down to him asking questions when asked questions. Any trained monkey can do that. That he did it and nobody else did is what makes them stick out so much. Most bands or artists are idiots. Dylan was quite savvy. He's not actually funny though.

Wasn`t there a time when Dylan used to crack jokes with the audience. There was one about how he always wears 2 pairs of trousers when he plays golf - in case he gets a hole in one. God that cracked me up !

I've always rememebered and quoted this line from a Dylan concert a long
time ago--it was in Tucson, & might have been Rolling Thunder. He introduced
the back-up singers as "My ex-wife, my next wife, my girlfriend, and my
fiancee." I'm trying to remember if there were even four different women, or
just three.

Somewhere in 1997:
From: Tom Burstein tburstein email.msn.com

I saw Dylan at Western Connecticut State University in 1997, I believe.
When he introduced Bucky Baxter he said,
"When I first met Bucky, he didn't have a penny to his name. I told him to
get another name."

drinking, and it is a small place...maybe two thousand...dylan had just finished
his first seven, eight, songs and was introducing the band and thanking the
opening act...all of a sudden he says: "and i'd also like to thank joan osborne;

Kingston, Nov 17, 2004:
'On guitar: Stu Kimball. Stu's from around here. He runs a farm just outside
town. Got cows there. He put one on a scale because he wanted to see how much
milky way....'

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

From Kailin Clarke:
Atlanta (April 12, 13, or 14th 2004, I don't know which):
"Larry was writing to his girlfriend in the hotel the other night.
I said, 'Larry, you can't write on an empty stomach, you gotta use paper!' "

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
From Leonard Varvaro (2009):
I saw Bob in Omaha a few years ago. At one point he introduced
his friend Doctor 'somebody or other' sitting in the audience.
"Stand up and take a bow, doc" he said. "okay, maybe later" All
of the audience was on its feet at the time.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
From tonygps (2009):
In Orlando one night Bob said, "I haven't made it to Disneyland yet.
I don't know if I'll ever get there."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mojo, April 26, 2009:
... even banter, as Dylan presented his band, including a Camden-centric introduction for
pedal-steelie/violinist Donnie Herron: "They tried to make him go to rehab,"
nasalled Bob. "He said no, no, no."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
From Matt Wilson:
George got a baseball bat for his wife. It's the worst trade he's ever made.

They say I shot a man named Gray and took his wife to Italy
She inherited a million bucks and when she died it came to me
I can’t help it if I’m lucky

Dragon clouds so high above
I’ve only known careless love
It’s always hit me from below

She was married when we first met
Soon to be divorced

The guy's funny.

You're a woman though, right?

Women laugh at everything.

Men - just look around at women when out and about - without fail, they are always smiling. When you put two or more of them together, watch out! They seem to be able to find hilarity in things that have no intrinsic humour.

And they do that sighing thing after laughing.

In short, and to conclude: Women = dodgy

Talkin Bear Mountain Massacre Picnic Blues...I think that's it. I may have added a word, or put a word in the wrong order, but it's something like that, I could go grab my CD and make sure, but I don't feel like it.

No that`s close enough thanks :)
Talkin Bear Mountain Massacre Picnic Blues... probably the song that I like the most from Bob's '60s work.

Phillip Norman: Are you easily bored, Mr. Dylan?

Dylan: I'm never bored.

Phillip Norman: Have you any notion of how bored you're gonna be doing this picture?

Dylan: Well ... maybe you'll be around.

Bob is hilarious-- one of the funniest musicians around! Sometimes he's funny intentionally and sometimes he's funny unintentionally.

"If Dogs Run Free" always makes me smile. I don't get as crazy over the "115th Dream"-style tracks. There are three in a row on Bringing it All Back Home that don't really do it for me but "I Shall Be Free" certainly gets a chuckle. "He's eatin' Burger Kings-- he was well fed!" What about "Love and Theft?" Lots of laughs. "Fourth Time Around" is so rich as well. "I didn't know whether to duck or run, so I ran!"

There's comedy on all his albums ...except maybe The Times They Are A-Changin'. At least I can't think of any laughs on there.

"Tombstone Blues" might crown them all though. Actually, lots of Highway 61 walk that fine line-- "Just Like Tom Thumb," "Highway 61," "Desolation Row," "Ballad of a Thin Man." Plenty of humour in those tracks ...or rather, absurdity, which is a whole nother bag.
