When I listen to Frank Sinatra I feel completely different about myself and life then when I listen to Bob Dylan. Does who we listen to have a direct correlation to who we are?

If we put on music ourselves rather than listening to what's cued up on the radio, I guess we choose what we want to listen to according to our mood, consciously or subconsciously. So yes, there'd be a different feel.

It's more than just that though, it works the other way 'round as well. The music you're listening to can indeed evoke a change in you. Rowdy music can excite people. Mellow music can mellow them out. Go watch any movie and you'll be led by the score through whatever moods the images call for. The reaction is not voluntary, it happens whether you want it to or not. (Though it can be consciously fought against.)

No, it has a direct correlation to where your ears and heart are pointing.

As Tom Waits said, the sound of a helicopter is music to a drowning man.
