Tim Finnegan, I understand that in an enterprise such as the one you proposed, that in ranking 33 songs, one of them will be number 33... dead last. And while the bar for these three exceptional albums is set VERY high, in what universe is the incredibly fun and wonderful Dirt Road Blues number 33?!

Tweedle dee & Tweedle dum is the only song I don't care for. Po' Boy is the best one. Then there's a vaguely-defined bunch that's real real good which overlaps with the ones that are merely real good.

Same here, I would feel bad for the songs ranked at the bottom.
They're all such good songs.

Keepers:

TOOM minus Make You Fill my Love
Tweedle, Mississippi, Summer Days, and Moonlight off L&T
Horizon, Nettie, and Ain't Talkin' from MT

I'm sort of fond of "Bye and Bye," "Po Boy," and "Cry a While" and I can imagine falling for "Deal Goes Down" if I ever remember the lyric

The rest of it didn't happen for me. Too many wordy blues with words that didn't quite get "there." Nice job on the sound on L&T, too; I just wish he wouldn't have tried to Wolf his way through it.

Hard to do but I found this an interesting process.

Most interesting is that it unearthed for me which of the three albums I like more, based on how highly rated the majority of the songs were.

Based on my list it seems like I rate the albums 1) "Love and Theft" (Way in front), 2) Modern Times a 3) Time Out of Mind (though only just behind MT)

Of course, this is based on album versions. Ratings would change for certain songs if live versions or alternate takes were considered (especially Cold Irons Bound and Someday Baby)

1. MISSISSIPPI
2. HIGH WATER
3. NETTIE MOORE
4. AIN'T TALKIN'
5. HIGHLANDS
6. LONESOME DAY BLUES
7. SUMMER DAYS
8. SPIRIT ON THE WATER
9. NOT DARK YET
10. PO' BOY
11. THUNDER ON THE MOUNTAIN
12. SUGAR BABY
13. FLOATER (TOO MUCH TO ASK)
14. WORKINGMAN'S BLUES #2
15. STANDING IN THE DOORWAY
16. COLD IRONS BOUND
17. CAN'T WAIT
18. TRYIN' TO GET TO HEAVEN
19. MOONLIGHT
20. SOMEDAY BABY
21. BYE AND BYE
22. CRY AWHILE
23. HONEST WITH ME
24. BEYOND THE HORIZON
25. LOVESICK
26. THE LEVEE'S GONNA BREAK
27. WHEN THE DEAL GOES DOWN
28. ROLLIN' AND TUMBLIN'
29. MILLION MILES
30. 'TIL I FELL IN LOVE WITH YOU
31. DIRT ROAD BLUES
32. TWEEDLE DEE & TWEEDLE DUM
33. MAKE YOU FEEL MY LOVE

I'm not up to ordering 33 songs at them moment, but I can say without a doubt that the best song from this trio of albums is Floater.

Making an average of the positions we gave to the songs until now (considering only those who gave a position to every song), the order is this at the moment:

1 Not dark yet
2 High water
3 Mississippi
4 Ain't talkin'
5 Nettie Moore
6 Highlands
7 Tryin' to get to heaven
8 Love sick
9 Can't wait
10 Cold irons bound
11 Workingman's blues #2
12 Po' boy
13 Cry a while
14 Standing in the doorway
15 Thunder on the mountain
16 Summer days
17 Lonesome day blues
18 Sugar baby
19 Spirit in the water
20 Million miles
21 Moonlight
22 Someday baby
23 Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum
24 When the deal goes down
25 'Til I fell in love with You
26 Honest with me
27 Floater
28 Make You feel my love
29 The leevee's gonna break
30 Dirt road blues
31 Beyond the horizon
32 Rollin' and tumblin'
33 Bye and bye

For what it's worth*:

Albums: 1) "L&T"
2) TOOM
3) MT

"L&T": Tracks 2, 10, 6, 7, 4, 8, 3, 12, 1, 11, 5. Don't care for 9.
TOOM: Tracks 3-4-5-6-7 (as a run), 1, 11, 9, 8, 10. Don't much care for 2. There's this ringing in the upper register (possibly my ears/poor sound equipment).
MT: Tracks 2, 6, 8, 1, 4, 10, 7 (in a good mood). Don't much care for 3,5 or 9.

As for overlaps of the albums: doesn't compute, as I tend to hear each album as a separate entity, complete, replete and delete unto itself.

* sequence may vary owing to mood, weather or state of digestion

This -

- and also that.

I cannot believe anyone can be bothered to do this meaningless task, what do we achieve by it? The answer is obvious anyway - the tracks we haven't yet heard (and since we no longer use tape may have been deleted) are bound to be the best ones right? Could this be the most ridiculous thread since... Cheese?
Once everyone has voted and a 'winner' has been found will we all agree? NO.... the continual repetition of meaningless tasks is one medical definition of psychosis.

Do carry on...

PS Double Gloucester with a simple Branston Pickle, on lightly toasted crusty white bread with a pickled onion.

Yeah! For instance, the task of putting down what others enjoy or are interested in just because You don't enjoy or don't feel interest in it.

Am I the only one that finds the underlying tenet of this thread to be nothing short of being very disrespectful towards Bobby and his marvellous work... in fact the more I read this, the more outraged and down-right angry I get... this thread is an insulting abomination and I am absolutely livid and upset about it... and I feel sure that I speak on behalf of everyone here about it.

I demand that the Moderators lock this thread immediately... and ban for life anyone who has made contributions to it... obviously, excluding myself.

Quite so, Mr. Thickboy. Who cares what any of us think, anyway? We are merely basking in the vanity of our own devotion.

This is a terrible exercise, and a terrible product. my only saving grace is that it gave me three good ideas for mixes - 1 thru 10, 11-20, and 21-33. All three would be good.

1. Nettie Moore
2. Ain't talkin'
3. Sugar baby
4. Workingman's blues #2
5. When the deal goes down
6. Moonlight
7. Summer days
8. High water
9. Highlands
10. Not dark yet
11. Mississippi
12. Someday baby
13. Standing in the doorway
14. Cry a while
15. Can't wait
16. Dirt road blues
17. Cold irons bound
18. Lonesome day blues
19. Love sick
20. Po' boy
21. Spirit in the water
22. Honest with me
23. Thunder on the mountain
24. The leevee's gonna break
25. Million miles
26. Beyond the horizon
27. Tryin' to get to heaven
28. 'Til I fell in love with You
29. Floater
30. Bye and bye
31. Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum
32. Make You feel my love
33. Rollin' and tumblin'

Mississippi 13th?

Workingman's Blues 27th?

I can't take you seriously :?

I'd put them both in the top 5!! I won't do them all but my top few would be

Mississippi
High Water
Not Dark Yet
Workingman Blues
Tryin' to Get to Heaven
Cry a While

Why? We're simply ordering 33 songs considering which ones we like best. By the way: I like them all! Some very very very very much. Others, I would put only a "not bad".

We are knowing other people's tastes about this songs and that's all. What's wrong with that?
