If you could only see Dylan perform live once, in either 1966 or 2012, which year would you choose?
1966 71%  71%  [ 99 ]
2012 29%  29%  [ 40 ]

It's a toughie.

Just to clear things up- with Brian Twistleton-Tumble-Drier in mind- this fantasy poll enables the voter to travel back in time to watch Dylan perform live, in 1966.

I kindly ask the people who select the second option to explain their reasons for.
And there are a missing option - not to go for some reason. E.g. because you're afraid that the 1966 show will kill you, i mean literally.
For me it's a teoretical discource because i will go no more to any Dylan show.

It's worth bearing in mind that if you went back to the '66 concerts in England you would be sat in an audience of twats listening to terrible sound.

Nothing's changed there.

Oh dear , a thread for ModBob haters ! As thickboy would say this so-called folks are everywhere these days

So , i would definitely pick 1966 . But what are you trying to prove Train-I-Ride and why are you trying to prove it ?
Those who like ModBob will like a 2011 concert , even if it's not as great as 1966

Just explain to us, if you will Bri, why his 1966 audience were 'twats'?

I'm not trying to prove anything. I simply want to know whether ER's constituents would prefer to have seen Dylan in 1966 or 2012. Is that a problem?

No problem man , i thought it was a thread to prove how bad ModBob is...

Quote:
So, you'd rather see him in 2012, than have seen him in 1966. More fool you

Anyway , i'm sure most people would prefer 1966 .

Even though I wished that I would have been a fan in 1966, he still had a kids voice without the emotions-shall I say - of his current voice. Although his voice has changed, he's had 50 years to perfect it, and his last performance of Blind Willy McTell was suburb, something that I don't think the 1966 Bob could have pulled off as well. Yes, I think his current voice is just fine.

Of a divided audience, interviewed outside, after the shows? Yes. So you're not suggesting they were twats for attending the concerts, then?

As a middle-aged adult, I would find the cool/hip/druggie persona Dylan adopted in '66 embarrassing to witness. I would also find the audience a bit simple - but that is with the benefit of hindsight; they were too busy being puzzled and surprised to understand what they were seeing and hearing. My experience of such a show wouldn't share the same time and place as the audience. Nothing would shock me, as I would know what to expect.

I'd rather take a chance on 2012.

The real question is the following: Is Bob a rock star or something else?
A rock star just can't grow old (I know they do, but...), because this genre of music have to do with the youth sexuality. The star appear on stage and all the girls (and many boys) in the crowd just want him, it's inevitable.
If he is something else... there are a lot of 70-year-old musicians and they are not so bad at all.

Well, not you, obviously. But you're not everyone.

imo, Dylan was better in '66... nonetheless he still puts on a good show... that's not the reason however that I chose 1966. I've seen Dylan in '09, 10 and 11. I'm pretty sure he'd be pretty much the same. 1966 would be an entirely different show altogether :D

You mean then, when he was in the midst of a career shaping run of classic albums. Then, when he was changing the face of rock and roll. Then, when he was re-inventing songwriting and putting an end to the Brill Building types. Then, when he was the coolest whammer- jammer on the planet.
Or now, when he still shows flashes of his brilliance(on albums) but has a hard time sustaining it in concert. Now, when he can no longer sing, 'cept when he rests up those chords and takes his time in the studio(still more miss then hit).

I voted then.

I know, I know. The fact that this question has been posed 1,000 times is quite boring.

Thus my response needed the sameweight :)

There obviously isn't any 2012 shows ta draw from... it's unkown. Why don't you poll something like, a show from the year 2000 or one from 1966? Both tours are held in high regard and it'd just be a more interesting topic.

Yes , I've actually asked myself many times if would prefer 1996-2003 to 1975-6 .

Be nice to each other, eh? Or at least polite.

It's a no-brainer question, really. Y'all know my answer to it....

It won't have occurred to you that you come over exactly like one of those twats that you alluded to, that were self-righteously angry, following Dylan's electric sets, in '66. Interesting that a simple question: 'Would you rather see Dylan in '66 or the present?' can trigger so much spleen, ire and telltale defensiveness.

1966

the only reason I would go and see him in 2012 is that I've never seen him...
