My ex-wife told me before we parted: "Dylan has destroyed our marriage."

PD. I said: "But it’s alright, Ma, it’s life, and life only"

I said that later, but I said it singing: "No lo pienses más, olvídalo ya" (DTTIAR, spanish cover)

PD. Thanks Tellme

And here we find the cult within the cult :D

I've only just began, but I haven't listened to anything else willingly since the end of August. (I do share in the car because my son is 16 and he thinks I'm a bully when I completely dominate the music.) <-----brat ;)

Read Chronicles in a day, would have been faster if I didn't have to cook, clean, do laundry, etc.

You may not believe this, but I haven't listened to any Dylan for about 3 weeks!
I don't believe it.

I would be lying on the floor in the fetal position experiencing painful, toruturous convulsions...

For the life of me, I can't imagine why someone would do such a thing... I'm going to listen to a NET boot and I'll be thinking of you. It may not do you any good but my sense of solidarity towards your plight will make me feel better.

Untrodden Path, did you only become a fan when you heard the NET?

No. I didn't care for Dylan through the '60s and you couldn't really get away from him. But little by little through the '70s I started liking him (live only) and when Slow Train Coming hit and the tours that followed I was very taken in by his passion and ability to perform. Those shows without the pretentious bullshit, without the alcohol and drugs, were incredible.

At one level, the NET really isn't that much different from what he's done since Before the Flood... he takes the songs he's written, arranges them to suit his agenda and then performs endlessly... and then does it again. Aside from the first couple of gospel tours, this has pretty much been his formula. He's been ridiculed, disdained and criticised mercilessly by critic, fan, and foe alike for "ruining" his songs. But they're his songs and if anyone should know how they ought to sound, it would be him. He knows what's in his head and his heart.

However, when it comes to the NET, except for the last five studio releases, I can only name a handful of songs that he hasn't improved 1,000 times over the studio release during the NET and with that handful there are live versions from previous tours that were vast improvements over the studio version.

I recently donated everything that I owned from Blood On the Tracks and earlier to our local library. I give up. I've tried for nearly 50 years to like some of them and it isn't going to happen. If he would re-record those albums with his current band I'd give 'em another shot. But as it is, I don't have enough years left in this life. I'm beginning to feel I wasted plenty of time on a lost cause as it is. Its time to move on...

You're killing me. But at least others will hopefully discover Bob thanks to your kind donations.

Do you like the Beatles? They were as coked up as Dylan.

Like the Beatles? Yes and no. When I'm in the mood, nothing's better. And when I'm not, I don't bother with them at all.

I experienced a totally different attitude from them and didn't find them offensive. Also, they actually spent enough time in the studio to make their albums sound good. Dylan wasn't known for that. The Beatles albums, as released, are pretty darn good.

Its unfair to compare them in a way. Lennon/McCartney were very good songwriters, as was Harrison in his own right. Each were very talented musicians who worked very hard together. They shared a history. Dylan was one guy with a bunch of different studio musicians who may or may not be there for the next session. If the end, the results are very different and in my mind, as the albums are in their official release, the Beatles win over Dylan by leaps and bounds.

Had they been alive and stayed together or re-grouped, would they have been as impressive as the NET? Probably not. McCartney has stayed so close to the originals in concert... no creativity. No growth or development. There are people who prefer that but I find stagnation to be a near death experience.

Do you like the songs themselves? Not the recordings of the songs, but the lyrics & the melodies?

She's wrong....YOUR addiction to Bob destroyed your marriage. Your efforts were elsewhere and that is what destroyed it... not Bob. He doesn't even know either of you....

so do you... his name is Bob.

stop with your ex wife and crap...really.... you sound ridiculous to everyone that followed your posts over the summer.

and she's not your ex wife yet.. you are living separately... divorce doesn't happen that fast....oh, and are you separate just b/c of work reasons and eventually will end up cohabiting like before?

@tellmemomma.... you missed out on all the drama with this guy... it was quite the circus/freakshow.
