When I first heard the Tonight, I'll Be Staying Here with You"(the live boot version the rev referred to at the beginning of this thread) I too was blown away. I couldn't even get on to the rest of the cd for awhile just blown away by theabsolute glee in Dylan's performance!!

The other one is and always has been Shelter fron the Storm from Hard Rain.

Yes. I'm sticking with my choice that opened this thread. When I got the cd, I don't think I got past "Tonight I'll Be Staying Here With You" to the rest of the disc for a couple of days.

And I'll second your second choice. I too would pick "Shelter From the Storm," but not the studio release. I go along with you on either the "Hard Rain" version or the "alternate take" that's on the NYC "Blood On the Tracks" session.

"It's a never-ending battle from a peace that's always torn." Only Dylan writes so well that he would discard a line like that without looking back.

I'm with the guy on the first page that picks the version of "Tonight I'll be Staying Here With You" from the official release of Bootleg Series Vol. 5, I just remember being hit with an overwhelming feeling that this was the most magnificent Live performance I'd ever heard. To put it simply, for me Bob Dylan is religion, and The Rolling Thunder Revue is the word

I'm the guy. For anyone in the world who's never heard the official RTR version, here it is:

Lay Down Your Weary Tune.

Makes me feel like it's 1912 and my grandpa is playing and singing it for me.

'Brownsville Girl' as remastered on the red box set, 2007; the way the guitars are brought to the fore on this epic sprawling cinematic epic just elevate it to the greatest sound and greatest mix of one of Dylan's greatest songs, all the more remarkable for its creation during one of his less creative periods.

Pledging my time - the opening few seconds with harmonica and electric guitar both screaming for attention always blows me away. Blonde on Blonde is such a great record.

This is a good thread Rev, but I'm hard pressed to name just one song. There are different elements I love about many of Bob's songs. I'm not sure if I can sort it out to tell you the truth.

Don't forget the way he sings "Oh momma" one of my favorites

Desolation Row- the album version. Still as powerful as the first time I listened to it and always some new lyrics that strike me more than the last time. And the harmonica. Not very original but that's my own 'perfect song'.

what you said, knocks me out every time
