Primarily so I get some recommendations for shows to track down and also to see what is the general consensus of Bob's worse live period.

Worst was Belfast 1991.
He looked and sounded as though he'd been on a whisky bender for a fortnight.

Best, difficult to say, Cardiff 2000 close, final night Manchester 95 close, x2 Telluride 2001 close, but the show I always come back to and listen to more than any other is London 8th Feb 1990.

The best shows i attended from a personal perspective were the two at The Docks Club Hamburg in Oct 2003,not necessarily for the performances but for the intimacy of the venue, the same can be said for the casino show last year in Temecula, for performance and set list variation i have to go for the Brixton residency London 2005,the worst being Docklands 02 purely because the venue was hideous for sound.

Sadly Ive only been attending shows since 2002 so i feel a little sad i missed the 2000 shows as i have most of them on disc and they generally dominate my cd player.

By far, the worst show I saw was my first show, November 1991, Wilkes-Barre, PA. I was only 15, and this was in the days before the internet for me, so I had no idea what to expect. I wondered if Bob would come out alone like the 1965 footage I had seen, or if he would come out with a band and rock like he did on the bootleg VHS tape I had from 1986 with Petty and the Heartbreakers. Needless to say, he came out, and sort of rambled and incoherently mumbled through a ton of songs, but none really stood out. It was great for me to be seeing Dylan live, and I had no comparison to other shows, but after seeing him year after year after this, that show turned out to be the one that really stuck out to me as bad. I only caught him once in 1993 (where he opened for Santana) and that was not that great of a show either. That was during his long jam phase, where you would get a 14 minute version of Tangled Up In Blue. That, coupled with the short set list as the opener, made it my second least favorite show.

Best show...man, that one is about impossible to answer. So many good memories. Wilkes Barre 1992 show opened with a great West L.A. Fadeaway, followed with my all time favorite Peggy-O. Wilkes Barre 1994 rocking Bob was really turning things around, 1995 Philly had the Patti Smith duets, 1997 Montage PA had Sooner or Later One of Us Must Know, the 1999 tour with Paul Simon was fun, and 2000-2002 shows were all really top notch in the various venues I saw him in.

Worst show: Correggio (Italy) 1992. One of the very few shows that featured 2x2 (which I couldn't recognize for the first 2 minutes).
Best show: Ferrara (Italy) 1996. An underrated show, with a great acoustic set

best: Cardiff 23/9/2000

worst: Stuttgart 17/6/91 - yes, I've been there (it was my first show) and you CAN'T 'top' this !

Best:

Manchester 95, final night
Glasgow 95
Glasgow 2000
Barrowlands 2004, for the atmosphere

Worst:

Newcastle 2002, not so much the performance, I was way back in the venue and there was zero atmosphere

Edinburgh 7th Apr 95, not so much the performance although it was probably the weakest of the tour, horrendous security and the people going back and forth to the bar during the show plus the limited view from the back row of the stalls and the yoyo effect of morons standing/sitting/standing/sitting all through the show made it the worst concert ever for me.

The worst show performance I would probably have to say Glasgow 91 although I did enjoy that show more than Glasgow 2005/2007/2009

Worst show: Brussels 1991, the one in Essen later that year was nearly as bad.

Best show: Düsseldorf 2007. In fact I'm just listening to a recording of this show and it sounds to me much better than anything I've heard from this year's tours

I think that all those who complain about Dylan in 2007-9 should remember those awful 1991-2 shows!!!

Best: Hamilton, Ontario Canada, August 21, 1992--great show with "Idiot Wind."
And Canandaigua, NY June 28, 1988: awesome start of the NET--he came out with guns a' blazin'.

Worst: Corfu, NY July 27, 1991: An alcohol zombie-- looked like he had a few too many Genesee Cream Ales before the show. A shame, as it's a great setlist.

Best? Cardiff 2000, closely followed by Wembley 2003. Cardiff 95 and O2 2009 were pretty damn good too.

Worst? Hammersmith 91, my first Dylan gig, was technically the worst. Cardiff 2002 was going through the motions in a disinterested way I'm afraid, so that was the most disappointing.

Listening back to Hammersmith 91 that series of shows are not as bad as they are made out to be, there are some fine performances, particularly in the acoustic sets.

Ferrara: good show, and my brother have the Bob's guitar strings 8) from this show, of course

Tambourine Man was special. But overall pretty shambolic. Difficult to think then he would still be going 18yrs later, with a whole bagload of acclaim.
