What do you think is Bob's best song about the concept of Love (as distinct from specific experiences of it)?

I'd have to agree with this.

I thought you were asking about the best song about love by anybody, Dylan included. If so, Bob doesn't make the short list for me. He was always better at telling someone to piss off than at expressing affection.

yeah bob's the ultimate stfu writer. But still he's got a bunch of bitter-love songs (boots of spanish leather and simple twist of fate and such) but I think love minus zero is a beautiful love song where he doesn't diss the subject.

"I'll be your baby tonight".
At least I'm relatively sure that that one is actually about loving someone.

"Love minus zero" sounds more like a song about illusions to me, love not even looked at from both sides now.

Long Johnny:

I did mean a song by Bob and sung by Bob.

I was also trying to get at the spiritual aspect of Love.

What about Make you Feel my Love as a candidate? There is an interesting YouTube slide shown in which the Garth Brooks version is interpreted with Bible quotations.

Bob once said in an interview that it had occurred to him that song could be from the point of view of a baby. :P

It has that great line 'Bring that bottle over here', which is basically 99% of the conversations my lover and I have!

If You Gotta Go, Go Now. Which contains the classic:

"It ain't that I'm wantin'
Anything you never gave before.
It's just that I'll be sleepin' soon,
It'll be too dark for you to find the door."

Most of Dylans "love songs" are some kind of "abandoned love songs".
"Genuine" love songs seem to be quite rare.
Sad eyed lady and Wedding song maybe.
Many songs start with love and admiration, but turn bitter in the end , Hazel for example.

Buckets of rain.

I just love the 'feel' of that song, the lyrics may not be the best but I think it coveys a genuine feeling of love.
