I was at a bar last weekend and people were dancing to Like a Rolling Stone. Impressions were happening as well, fun was had by all.

-Must Be Santa
-When The Deal Goes Down would create a romantic dance (maybe a first dance from bride/groom at a wedding?)
-You Ain't Goin' Nowhere, Basement Tapes version (if you're in a goofy dance mood, if you ever get those 8) )
-My cousin and his wife at their wedding danced for the first time to Make You Feel My Love (sadly, it was Adele's cover  )

That's all I can think of for now...

At some point in my youth, rock-n-roll somehow became music for sitting on the floor & passing a joint, & "dance music" was drum machines, bass, & boring, repetitive rhythms. I never bought into any of this---never was a dope-smoker---so I've always felt that I could dance to whatever music I wanted to.

So here are the Dylan songs that make it hard for me to keep my feet still:
Summer Days
Bye and Bye
I Want You
Changing of the Guard
Tight Connection to My Heart
Any live 1988 performance of Like a Rolling Stone. I love G.E. Smith's guitar solo. He played it the exact same way, night after night, but I find it irresistible.

I can easily imagine Soon After Midnight being played in a 1950's high school prom movie scene with the kids dancing to it.

If I could dance, I'd dance to Summer Days!

Summer Days
I Want You
Floater/Bye and Bye
Step It Up and Go
Tough Mama
Nashville Skyline Rag

I'm sure there are many I'm forgetting.

I dance (actually dance) to Dylan songs a lot. I have a lot of favorites, including:

Changing of The Guard
When You Gonna Wake Up
I Want You
Stuck Inside of Mobile
Narrow Way
H61R
On A Night Like This
Maggie's Farm 2005
Down Along the Cove 2005

And many others.

When I went to Swing lessons, I got the teacher to play Summer Days.

The shaka-shaka-boom-boom version of 'I Pity The Poor Immigrant' from '76 is the only one that comes to mind.

Tempest. But this probably a bit macabre, isn't it ?

It's easy to picture Shake Shake Mama being sung with a kind of a tight, focused shoulder dance done by the singer, as if he's encouraging mama to dance.

Anything off Modern Times. Minus "Ain't Talkin". Might make your dance partner think you're about to murder them.

Are there songs you can't dance to?
Yes, there are, but most of the songs have the power, the rhythm, the swing to dance to.
Don't want to mention them all.
Look at the last album, look at "Tempest": Duquesne Whistle, Soon After Midnight, Narrow Way, perhaps Early Roman Kings.
And someone mentioned it above: You can dance to Tempest (the song) as well, although: it lasts a little bit long. And if you are in a melancholic mood, catch your girlfriend and move within the slow waves of Roll on John!

Although the new album is not the main dancefloor record, you find songs to dance to on it.
But they are of course not songs for discotheques.

And don't forget Handy Dandy (lots of listeners forget this one), one of the most sexy sounding and swinging record.

And to tell the truth: I'm always a little bit disappointed that only very few people are moving themselves in Dylan-shows- at least here in Germany and surrounding countries. But you can't blame the songs or the song-and-dance-man for this but us, the audience! Sometimes the audience stands there as if they came from an geriatric welfare house -even the younger people (but of course: everyone can do what he/she does want to do)

I started the thread because I have been getting away with playing a lot of Dylan in the house lately. Finally, yesterday, my wife says, "come on! Something else, please--there isn't one song you can actually dance to!" I immediately played Tough Mama, at which point she says, "well, ok. There is ONE."

You are all helping the cause here--so Dylan can keep on singing through my speakers!
