I missed Florence '07 and heard it was a great one to have attened. (The only NE show I missed that tour) Figures....

I do recall it was about 100 degrees that day.

Yeah the recording I have of it sounds fair. I like that arrangement of It's Alright, Ma a lot. I also think the arrangement of Sheltter from the Storm they played is pretty unusual. It sounds to me like Stu starts Workingman's on it.

Essex Jct was good too.

Heard 43 different songs live, among them "One More Cup of Coffee" :D

I really wish I attended Munich (2009). If I had to chose one setlist, I would chose this one. One More Cup, Ain't Goin Nowhere, Hollis Brown, Hattie, Maggie's in the same show. You're so lucky XRaylroad.

This might be the only messageboard in the world where some people may appreciate the following: On the Toads recording, you can hear Dylan bantering with the crowd in between songs, a magic night, anyway, there is a point where someone requests "Joey" and Dylan replies "Joey?! Well, if you'll sing it we'll play it".....that someone who Dylan was talking to there is ME!!! I have witnesses, including my father who was and is a longtime Dylan nut who I took with me to this show. Maybe should make a thread specifically about that night, the tapes dont do it justice, it was the feeling in the room that was the highlight.
It's one of those shows that held 700, but over the years have heard about 30000 claim attendance :-). I still have my stub!

i'm guessing yhou're a big grateful dead fan- as i see you were at all six dylan/grateful dead shows, and various other shows where bob opened for the grateful dead , or the dead...
just curious, how many times did you see the grateful dead, or garcia? (me, only saw the grateful dead about 12 or 13 times, i think..)

plus, impressive, you were at all four supper club shows!

if you compare my lis to yours (i posted a few posts back) I was at about several of the same shows (two of the dylan/dead shows, one of the supper club shows, darian lake with the dead, a few others)... interesting to see what overlapped

Yes, I am a HUGE Grateful Dead fan.
I think my Official Grateful Dead count to the best of my recollection is 257 shows. (a couple years ago I used "Deadbase" to go back and count them up. That is not counting Jerry Garcia Band which was probably around 50 times in various acoustic and electric configurations. Im not counting the couple handful of shows of all the post Jerry configs. I saw the most shows in a relatively short period, meaning as soon as I graduated high school I went on the Road with them for close to 3 years. Summer 85 through Summer of 88, I was AT every show (got shut out of 4) so yes, I got to see all the 86 GD/Dylan/Petty shows and then obviously all 6 of the Dylan/Dead 87 tour. I stopped touring by 1989, but would still go to Northeast shows on a regular basis (and by the early 90's that was EASY because they were so popular then they would do 9 night runs at MSG and things like that, much easier taking the train in from CT every night to see 9 shows, then it was say in 1985 where I would put on 3000 miles to see 9. By some freak of fate, I met my current wife in spring 1995 and we decided to drop everything and do the whole 1995 summer tour (after Id been off the road for over 6 years). I am grateful (/pun) for that coincidence because it allowed me a last amount of time with Jerry before he died.

By the way, I don't say the above to be cool, or even with a lot of pride, there was definite fall out in my life because of those choices that I made back then. In some ways I am still paying for that time on the road. It definitely delayed some life goals. At this point I do have a career, a wife and daughter so everything is good. I just never may be able to retire!

Even still, I wouldn't trade the experiences I had back then for anything. All life is a trade off I guess.

The Supper club! Great run. I was so lucky to be able to go to all 4 of those! (connection to an artist management company got me in, I am also a professional musician)

I have been lucky enough to be at some incredible concerts over the years, some GD shows that 25 years later are looked back on as legendary, but I can say unequivocally that the best concert I have ever been to in my life was Dylan at Toads. Yes, the playing was uneven, yes there were repeats, yes there were flubs and vocal blunders galore. None of that was the point. The point was that for a man as guarded and private as Dylan, Toads place was as close as anyone will ever get to actually feeling like they got to interact with the man. It was pure magic. Nobody had any idea what would happen that night. The show was announced and then tickets went on sale 3 days later on a last minute announcement (lucky I was used to sleeping on the street from my GD days, I was outside of Toads for 3 days to get those tickets!).

We did not know what to expect going in to the show. I was also lucky enough to see the Rolling Stones do a surprise guerrilla show at Toads the previous year (1989) and they came in and did a quick 1 hour set and were out of there. It was cool seeing them in a small club/bar atmosphere. So when it came to the Dylan show we were kind of expecting the same deal. Just get one set and feel lucky to have seen The Bard in such an intimate setting. So Dylan plays his first set (and I remember thinking that night that the Walk a Mile in my shoes opener was called "Got some Mud in my shoes"! :D
That is what it sounded like he was singing!) anyway, the first set ends and they say that he will be back for another set after a short break. Right there, I am thinking, "Cool, a 2 set Dylan show in a bar, this is AWESOME!" So he does the next set and he says he is taking another Break but will be back for ANOTHER set. It is between the second and 3rd set during the break that people start buzzing about this night being something special.
He comes out and does the 3rd, and at this point he is bantering with the crowd between almost every song, smiling, doing rockstar poses with his guitar, making eye contact with many, many people, just interacting with everyone. He is taking REQUESTS!!!! He is doing CRAZY covers!!!
The 3rd set ends and Toads (because it is a Bar) says that people have to finish their drinks, and that they have to stop serving alcohol, because this is now a private party and Dylan will play a 4th Set after closing time! The roof blew off the joint. EVERYONE at this time knew they were witnessing some historic, something REALLY special. I wish I could accurately convey the feeling in the room at that time. It was like a full hour of goosebumps.
I understand why many people listen to those tapes and go "meh". RTR tightness and big sound it is NOT. It is a stripped down 4 piece bar band rehearsing on stage. There are point's on the tape that still bring back the goosebumps though. Because I can put what Im hearing with the mental image of what I experienced that night. Still brings a smile to my face!!

By the way, interesting tidbit. Me and my band Play Toads place regularly (once a month) and have been playing there since 1995. Our band has played more dates at Toads place than anyone else has played by a pretty wide margin,(which Toads acknowledges privately but will never make a public press release stating that :D ) ... and not a night goes by that when I go up to stage that I dont think of where Dylan was standing. Great memories.
