Take what you have gathered from car wind so dense

I learned it wasn't a good idea to share a long car journey with a group of curry addict lager louts, relatively late in life. If only I'd listened to Bob earlier

Thought for years it was "And the ladies treat me kindly, and they furnish me with tea." As in '60's slang for Colorado tea. Even though it comes nowhere near to rhyming with "escape."

You’re shitting me, that’s not what he’s singing!? Just looked it up, can’t believe it. I thought it was just a funny line.

Hooray, I’m not alone! I swear it’s a better line anyway.

I heard: "I'm trying to read your poetry." Apparently, it's "I"m trying to read your portrait,".

In ASW from BoB the line is apparently "Yes, I waited for you when you hated me." I never heard hated, it sounded more like handed or handled even though that doesn't make as much sense.

Pretty sure it is handled, I’ve noticed the lyrics on the Bob Dylan website (guessing it’s same in print) contain the odd error here and there or reflect live versions of the songs with some changes. It’s All Over Now Baby Blue for example seems to be the Bootleg 5 rather than BIABH recording.

Minor Dylan song that Johnny Cash put on San Quentin.

Wanted Man, I heard "Wanted Man in this Tex town." Lyric book says "next town."

I do it too, always keep the lyrics in front of me when I listen to something new.
If they're available.

I usually listen to a new record several times before reading the lyrics sheet. So that I better listen to the song and music first. Then I try to understand what the meaning is. But not always...

Right, 'hated' makes sense, but he doesn't really use the long 'a' on that word.

Just listened to it five times, skipping back. I concede defeat (also I have no life).

I'm glad it's hated, mighty fine word to use.

Maybe Johnny took it upon himself to improve that for him. It has the mark of Cash all over it.

"Wanted Man" is a perfect song for me. I love that Dylan wrote it, Cash sang it and the reaction of the audience to it.

It's "Tex town" for sure.

I remember hearing Tangled for the first time so long ago and maintaining my stance that "docks at night" was what I was hearing. I sang it so for at least a year before I faced up to the disappointing truth.

Wanted Man has always been my favorite song on the San Quentin album, too. Dylan, Cash and the Tennessee Three. I'm not suprised that Dylan never covered it after. He'd probably poo himself trying.

I didn't say it was my favourite! lol. That would be "San Quentin" which is so good that he sang it again.

I agree with the sentiment that Dylan has done well to leave this song alone.

Hopefully Bob will see this thread and incorporate these lyrics in the Summer Tour. It'll liven up the shows.

no concession or defeat,
let’s say that
you profess enlightenment

and anyway,
you can sing it however you like

Dylan's lyric book says "next town," which threw me for a loop. Funny how Cash says on the album that they wrote the song together.
