Probably the entire second part of Highlands, in the restaurant scene, for me....weird, but in a good, Basement Tapes sort of way. To wit:

It must be a holiday, there’s nobody around
She studies me closely as I sit down
She got a pretty face and long white shiny legs
She says, “What’ll it be?”
I say, “I don’t know, you got any soft boiled eggs?”

On the recording I hear it:

"She got a pretty face and long white shiny legs
I ask her "tell me what I want..."
She says, “You probably want...hard boiled eggs.”
I said "That's right. Bring me some."
She says "We ain't got any - you picked the wrong time to come."

^You're right, of course....in the interest of saving time, I just copy and pasted from dylan.com....what do they know? :)

Either way, weird, weird, weird.

From Senor
"Well, the last thing I remember before I stripped and kneeled
Was that trainload of fools bogged down in a magnetic field" :?:

and
From Hard Rain
"I saw a white ladder all covered with water" :?:

I love the "sucked the milk out of a thousand cows" line. hink about it for a second: the milk you've been drinking in your coffee or whatever over the last couple of years has most likely been "sucked out of a thousand cows."

I always thought those lines from The Basement Tapes were like “dummy lyrics," words that come into Dylan's head as he was making the music but not proper lyrics that he actually wrote. (Didn't Paul McCartney call "Yesterday" "Hardboiled Eggs" for weeks before he actually found a better title?)

"Hardboiled eggs"?????????????????????????????????….lololololol - i think that is the funniest misstatement of fact i have ever seen here….oh, my god….lolololol

it is "scrambled eggs"

tooooooooooo funny

Me and my gal, my gal’s son
We got met with a tear gas bomb
I don’t even know why we come
Goin’ back where we come from

Something always felt a little off about this line.

Why is it any weirder than "What'll you do now my blue-eyed son?" The Oxford town narrator isn't Dylan, he's in character like most of his songs

It means he's not the father, presumably. Was that weird in 1963?

I'm wasn't saying the meaning was weird. I think it throws the rhythm off. Or something like that. I guess this wasn't really the right topic to say that.

Anyone got any idea why it's "African trees" in MitLBC? Presumably it's set in the US MidWest?

Also is a "hurricane breeze" anything but a laboured rhyme on trees?

Nominations for Dylan's strangest lyrics? - not surreal strange, but just odd strange... and maybe a little off.

e.g. Lenny Bruce:

"Never robbed any churches nor cut off any babies' head."

also Abandoned Love:

"My heart is telling me, I love you but you're strange"

The cutting off babies heads may refer to the allegation against American troops in Vietnam (See Attached)
