An example of some of Bob Dylan's school work, on display at the Experience Music Project in Seattle, January, 2005.

Quote:
The teacher's writing on the left reads:
"I think that more could have been done with this, don't you? As a whole, however, this is quite good."

The right side:
"Your -?- is wrong. Your bibliography is too. Look at the forms that I passed out to you. You use this phrase too frequently - 'You can't help but like...' "

Letter of support for John Lennon:

Quote:
JUSTICE for John & Yoko!

John and Yoko add a great voice and drive to this country's so called ART INSTITUTION / They inspire and transcend and stimulate and by doing so, only can help others to see pure light and in doing that, put an end to this mild dull taste of petty commercialism which is being passed off as Artist Art by the overpowering mass-media. Hurray for John & Yoko. Let them stay and live here and breathe. The country's got plenty of room and space. Let John and Yoko stay!

Do we only have one side of this, or am I missing something?

Thank you very much for providing these scans. Very interesting.

Quote:
I read a bit further on the page and it said something about a comment made about his mother after the article, but since the article was published in 1991, I doubt he'd take three years to seek his vengeance.

Indeed! My impression is he took three years to read the column with the joke in it! Not three years to react to it...

Bob Dylan stayed at the Hotel Okura in February 1994. It was in Tokyo he was shown Dan Bern's column. The interview he already knew.

You may recall the Dan Bern jokette followed on from the 'no one person could write all these songs' theme of the Paul Zollo interview. The joke suggested that Bob Dylan May not have written didn't write ANY of the songs, that they ALL were written by his mother Beattie. Except for Man Gave Names To All The Animals. smile emoticon

A weak joke but Bob Dylan's reaction seems over-the-top and peurile. But if we assume the letter/fax was never sent then it was just letting of steam. And Bob Dylan is well aware the descendants of those he was close to will now see him as a cash cow they can exploit for financial gain. They may have no ethics at all. This is not the last private item coming to the salerooms!

Eduardo Ricardo came up with that. I'm a fan of Dan Bern, he writes some funny stuff.

Ah, so the truth comes out. I thought the letter in question had been around for a while, but apparently it's been sitting in a box all this time. Dan Bern now speaks on the incident.

Does anyone have the Song Talk issue on hand and can scan it for us to see? Perhaps, someone would be interested in selling it to me?

So that Dan Bern letter came from Victor Maymudes collection according to this article,

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/08/10/books ... pages.html

Quote:
Jake, too, reveres Mr. Dylan. When I went to see him, choice memorabilia were carefully laid out on his bed: set lists from Mr. Dylan’s tours, stray notebook jottings in Mr. Dylan’s hand, as well as a hilariously vituperative letter the singer apparently drafted, on hotel stationery in Tokyo, to a music journalist back home.
