- That must be a BURLESQUE! move .. i can't have
peoples thinking i listen to Alan Jackson - and don't
tell (you-know-who) i said that.. i'd like to last more
than the 6 minutes i been hERe.... i like Boston's
Avatar too, now --- on a serious think - don't you
think Janis was ROCK/ROLL BURLESQUE? (in topic!)
(.. or is that just the effect Boston has on us? ...heh,heh..)

Wha? If you don't listen to AJ your missing out on one of the finer things in life. No $hit....

Wait, I'm off topic again....sorry. (For a second I was hopin' AJ was a burlesque star....I can dream, can't I?)

keep us posted, natch ... on that sn- research

Also worth checking out is Wayne Keyser's Ballycast: The Podcast of the Carnival, Sideshow and Burlesque. I'd recommend starting with episode 54 from May 31, 2012, featuring legendary Svengali deck pitchman S. David Walker. Walker died shortly after the interview was posted. http://ballycast.com/?p=386

Notice that the Ballycast page features a link to my Pinterest album featuring my collection of vintage Svengali decks and Svengali pitchman ephemera.

In the 40's S. David Walker was partners with magician Harry Lorayne, who turned 87 last week. They had a magic act and they pitched Svengali decks together. Dylan writes about reading one of Lorayne's books in Chronicles: Volume One.

Magician Pop Haydn's DVD School for Scoundrels at the Senior Pitchman's Reunion includes S. David Walker telling some great stories, and Walker is also featured in the soon to be released second volume. Haydn is featured prominently in this video for Madame Pamita's Blind Willie McTell cover "My Southern Can is Mine." http://youtu.be/6_ZVqw6gmp8

Haydn often shares the stage with modern burlesque performers, for example last year there was a Scoundrels and Trollops night at Lili VonSchtupps' Monday Night Tease, LA's longest running weekly burlesque show. Here's a photo: https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.net/ ... 4343_n.jpg

Scott, i bet bob feels like an open book with you. so chicago after dark, those girls are performing on a private stage-

please keep us posted Scott, it's like unraveling a rope of pain that has wrapped itself around americanarama too long.

if bob ain't about risk, he ain't about nothing.

this is a strange coincidence, but I picked it up today, and "Bob Dylan" is mentioned in the first 2 minutes of side 1, and "Burlesque" is mentioned in the first two minutes of side 2.

I said in one of the "TEMPEST" threads that I thought the cover art was a secret tribute to stripper Tempest Storm.

I think you might be onto something here.....what's interesting is that if you revisit the "Noah's Ark pt. 1" show, there is supposedly a call from a girl named ""Tempest Fox"-who says that she works at "a club", but she doesn't want to reveal what kind of "club" it is..so uh, this "Tempest" that Bob talked to just might have been a stripper...? Intriguing...I guess that episode was recorded perhaps back in 2008 or so? A handful of years before "Tempest" was released, of course...still, a little eyebrow-raising moment there......

-or, ya know, maybe Bob just named his album after the early 60's surf/rockabilly instrumental band called "The Tempests"- here's a link to their rockin' instrumental record, "Lemon Lime" - have fun!

Interesting, to me at least. Jack White's record label is releasing a Tempest Storm 7" through Third Man Records.

I came across this possible Tombstone Blues connection from Hamlet the Dane: A Burlesque Burletta, in Two Acts
By Charles Beckington.
