In NO aren't there or weren't there photos like these in windows to entice people? I'm sure this photo exhibit's main theme is not porno, however those 3 paintings can be depicting those porno photos I mentioned. It is just part of NO. Part of NO was porn I guess. Lets say bob was painting Amsterdam. Lets say he painted inside smoke shops and painted weed. Then he painted some of the sex shops and stuff you see in the window. The whole sub theme is taboo to most places although painting other parts of Amsterdam is not... Same thing

Good point.

Thanks... You had great points too...

I highly doubt that every place in the US has warnings for paintings... I think because they were live videos they had to put up warnings... Paintings aren't live of course...

Which one is Storyville? I like the girl with the boobs and the rope, the bums, the dance hall, the topless dancer one, and of course the muff dive just because it has a penis in it... Even though it is not in perfect penis proportion.

I'm running out of ways to get all my words referring to penis to begin with p.

What Jesus said. I hadn't seen a good photo of that before I went, and the original looks real good.

Storyville is haunting me. And I am not sure if it is based on a pornographic photo, it looks so carefully composed and it is such an odd scene, with the strange position of the man, mainly to build a triangle and the moon (?) hat (?) to add emphasis to the womans face.

Loin cloth? Maybe? It's just a long one...there might be a special name for it. I don't know

Long white thing hanging limply to the ground? One example of "Should-have-been-solved-better-by-the-painter"? It certainly does not cover her loins. As I am no stripper I don't know the technical name of a piece of fine cloth which serves to put empasis on the movement of your legs while not covering them. There probably is no name to it.

There must be a name for that, certainly. And also, I think we'd have to see the photo to see if he "should have solved it better," or if it looked like that to begin with.

It probably did hang down in the Photo. But if you paint a picture, the picture has to be able to come together on its own right, and that depends then on the ability of the painter. Which is why all of this plagiarism and copying discussion is soooo nonsense. Since a photo shows much more detail than his paintings, many more shades of grey, he would be faced with the difficulty how to make the painting look spot on and give it a life of its own. Otherwise you get a painting by numbers effect, which in fact some of the paintings do have. Reality looses in the photograph already, and then looses again when painted off the photo unless the painter composes it anyway. Personally I would find it easier to paint from life than from a picture.

In the photo one would certainly see what kind of material the Fire Dancers "loinveil" is made off. Same with the funny shadow on the leg of the Storyville girl or the white thing which covers her right arm.

Yes - I was wondering what's the matter with the guy's hand in West End Blues.

It worked just perfect. Thank you, for some reason I really like seeing what that area looked liked. Did you go in that church too? (that is a church isn't it?)

Yes, it's Milan Cathedral, the main church at the center of town.

I didn't go in this time, but one day I will. Of course, the big square and all the area is even nicer in the summer. One thing I immediately noticed was the big poster of the Pietà Rondanini (which Bob was photographed with recently) hanging on the facade of the cathedral, but somehow I failed to take a photo of that.

No, not at all. Actually some of the covers of the magazines showed full lady bush. Art in galleries is art in galleries. We have places that have art that is pornographic in nature but still considered art. Also I went to the MOMA to see a performance artist. They had live naked people all over the place. They weren't doing anything sexually explicit live though...HOWEVER some of the artists videos were much more provocative and some pieces had a warning to parents bringing children. So we do have it here as well.

Nobody here would care. I remember seeing the Mapplethorpe retro at the Whitney Museum in NYC in the 1980s which had explicit photographs of guys pi$$ing in each other's mouths and Mapplethorpe's self portrait with a whip stuck in his rectum, among other things. The U.S. Congress raised a fuss about the show stopping at D.C.'s Corcoran Gallery but it managed to tour the rest of the country without incident. It's fairly common now that major museums show films and videos with explicit content and galleries have been showing sexually explicit work and presenting explicit performances going back to the 1960s. The idea that this is accepted in Europe but not in the U.S. is incorrect. The only difference I've ever seen between the U.S. and Europe is the incredible amount of pornography available literally everywhere in Europe - every newstand in Europe is loaded up with explicit magazine covers on any public street you walk down - whereas in the U.S., there is some attempt through zoning to limit or prevent displaying it in public places where children might see it - something that doesn't seem to bother Europeans. Advertising also seems to be much much cruder and more sexually oriented in Europe - which more than anything has suggested to me just that advertising in Europe isn't as artful or clever as advertising is in the U.S. In Europe, advertising seems to be cheaper and more 'lowest common denominator.'

Talk about prejudice.
I don't know about every public street in Europe, I don't think I've seen all of them (yet). It certainly depends on where you go. Where I live, adult magazines are usually on the upper shelves out of sight and reach for children. But okay, that answers my question regarding that particular possible cultural difference.

Hardcore porn is by no means out of the reach of the average child who can read & understand: "are you 18 or older?" and then is capable to click on the "yes" button. And that is every average 10 or so year old... I've met children who seriously had the impression that all intercourse is anal, because they did not yet know that there is an opening more females have, but have seen enough explicit films, who prefer the a tergo position because it gives a good view of the penis. If people only would check what their kids consume via internet and smartphones... which are forbidden in primary schools of the town I live in, because of the mobbing and exchange of porn amongst the kids.
