Has anyone got Dylan's children's books (Forever Young, Blowin' in the Wind, Man gave name to all the animals) ?
What is your impression and would you recommend them for children/ what age ?
Thought about when I could start introducing Dylan to my god child - she has her 3rd birthday next month. :P

Blowin' in the Wind is a very sweet children's book. It's won some publishing awards. Forever Young is a cute book, too. As an adult fan, you can spot song references throughout the book. His children's books are well done.

I've only really looked at Forever Young. It has the lyrics illustrated to someone with Bob's likeness. It's really a perfect book for children and Dylan fans. The reason why it's great for Dylan fans is, it has numerous scattered references to Bob's other songs and career choices in the illustrations. For example: There is a fish truck which is being loaded.

My brother bought my three year old daughter Forever Young. She absolutely loves it. We've read it enough where she knows it by heart and we each trade off lines. Ill say the first line, then she'll say the second until the chorus where read it together

That's cute. :)

My good friend's grandson, Jackson, is turning one in 2 weeks and I plan to buy both of these books for him. He'll have them on his bookshef when he starts reading but in the meantime I know his nana will read them to him at bedtime while he looks at the wonderful art.

This sounds promising ! :D
Thank you all for your opinions. Probably I'll buy all of them and then I decide whether to give it to the girl or keep them for myself.

There are two versions of Man Gave Names. I got Forever Young for my daughter and it is probably her favorite Dylan song because of it. She is three.

Last year, I gave my nephew's little boy "Man Gave Names to All the Animals"
for his 3rd bd...he loves it. 8)
The book comes with a CD of the song. (I'd think all three of the books do, but don't know
for sure). I bought this edition of the book >>
http://www.amazon.com/Man-Gave-Names-Al ... he+animals

There's an older edition, illustrated by another artist, but i don't know if it's still available.
Personally, i liked the drawings in this edition much better anyway.

i've read and viewed each one, and each one was a cliffhanger to the very end!

Blowing in the wind might be the most visibly beautiful.
Man gave names to all the animals is great for kids who like animals. and reggae. i think that covers all kids pretty much.
i get one as a baby gift for everyone i hold dear to me. the parents can dish it out when they think it's appropriate.

i know most come with a CD - i don't remember for sure about forever young - they may have thought about that idea later.

isn't there one called when bob met woody? or am i dreaming that up? i haven't gotten that one yet.

Yep. I haven't actually read it, though. I'm not sure if it's a book that Bob had anything to
do with....kind of hard to tell by the write-up on Amazon.

It looks like if "Forever Young" from Amazon doesn't contain a cd. Does anyone know if it is also available with the cd included somewhere ???

When forever young came out, they hadn't thought of that marketing perk yet. Or bob couldnt decide which version to use! Lol. I don't think there are editions with the CD.

Got "Man gave names to all the animals" now. The book is cute - I love the hard cover front.

I have all three of the books - they are all great, very well done.

I would also recommend "When Bob Met Woody" by Gary Golio and Marc Burckhardt. It is excellent.

Several of the songs from Under the Red Sky would make great children's books. Several songs from Love and Theft would be cool too... especially Honest with Me. 8)

I saw a few pictures from the If Dods Run Free one the other day - couldn't quite imagine it as a kids book before, but it actually works quite well the way they did it.
