Post subject:  The Brazil Series

A few days ago I received some post-cards of Dylan and among them there was the reproduction of a painting by Dylan entitled The favela Villa Broncos belonging to The Brazil Series.

As I spent a long time at the Amazon jungle I was away from "the world", so I had no knowledge about of such a feat. I am very happy to know that Dylan likes the Brazilian atmosphere and made those paintings.

When I saw the paintings reproduced on the book I realized the non-temporality of the imaginary world.
The costumes of the characters show the scenes coming from 50's as "Songbird" for example. I wondered who could have inspired Dylan to do this painting and I have a hint: Dolores Duran.

Another detail that impresses me is the police presence in "the incident" and "the courtroom". We never had police using this type of uniform that for me is typically American. I guess that Dylan has painted scenes of stories he has heard tell.

"The Politician" is very reminiscent of the episode of the ex-president Itamar Franco who was with a friend without panties while playing carnival in 1994.

These are some of the impressions I had to see the book with the painting and I wanted to share with you.
I understand "The Brazil Series" as interesting pictorial chronicle about his impressions of Brazil.

PS: sorry about my english.

Your English is just fine. As has been discovered about Bob's Asia Series, some of the paintings were made after photographs. This is the case with at least one of the Brazil paintings as well, see here:

I don't know, maybe it's the same with the police paintings, that they were from photos that might have been taken elsewhere. Even though I recall there was a pencil sketch for 'the incident'.

Yes, Johanna! I saw here all the discussion about the Asian Series and I know about this photograph.
It's almost impossible that Bob had arrived at this place personally anyway, but the photograph has a strong view. You look at it and you can easily think about the way of living at a place like that. That's the reason why I think about the paint series as his movement to think about the subject and not simply a painting technical reproduction.
Or not.
