I think the Life / Vietnam one is sold.

I have asked to see more Life images and got no reply whatsoever from the gallery.

I have seen two new paintings which are for sale, and they are not from the Asia Series and the Piano Player image from the Brazil Series isn't one of them, either.

Oh so maybe the whole life thing is for sale. about the musicians- are you talking about that one where they said the price tag was 18 million or something. Do you mind saying where you saw the others, and anything about them, or if it is like milkcow, and you don't want to talk about it because it is not out to the public, then i can understand that. Also, what do you make of the Vietnam piece. Thanks

I'll have an article about the Vietnam Life image in the next issue of ISIS that should be around by next week, so I don't want to put all of my thoughts on here before this is out.

The musician paintings are not the Big Pink cover painting. They were both painted in 2011, in the style we've seen in the Asia Series. Both are painted after photos - I've seen the paintings first and then the photos. A friend got them from someone who got them from the gallery - not the originals of course, but image files.

I don't think I will post the full article on here. There will definitely a follow-up though as more information about any of these works emerges.

This is not actually correct. There are 18 paintings in the catalogue, and then there are close-up views of various parts of each painting - but there is nothing new / unseen / unreleased in the catalogue.

I just received my catalogue today - YAY - thanks BABF!! :D

weren't there like 20 something paintings in the catalog?

I just counted them and there were 18... where did I find that other number? whoa... okay milkcow....

I think the jury's still out - there seems to be no coherence or reason for these paintings as a collection. But the 'i must be missing something here' quality they exude does seem to lead to something deeper. Reading a clear message in the tea leaves of the LIFE cover text is sheer consipiracy theory, but there seems to be several layers of things operating at once in the reaction to the piece...and that can't be taken as coincidental from the author of "Love and Theft". How effective that Duchampian pump o' artiface turns out to be remains to be seen. Me i just love how it's all unfolded. It also strikes me that we could be reading too much intention into the actions of an older gent who wants to see what new things he can do. This all could be the largeness of bobdylan's image scraping up against things as it tries to get through the door (to the kingdom of the world at large).

1. a clever expedient; ingenious stratagem
2. crafty or subtle deception
3. skill; cleverness
4. a skilfully contrived device
5. Obsolete craftsmanship - or should i say 5. Obsolete craftsmanship

Elderfield says he saw 20 paintings at Bob's studio.

I thought that above all, what writers want is a wider readership. After a reasonable lag time, surely you'll share it with the hoi polloi?

Right on.

A perceptive article by Paul Wood, an art lecturer and owner of several of the Drawn Blank prints according to the post, on the "Asia Series" is at Michael Gray's blog, for those who haven't seen it (I missed it the first time around).

http://bobdylanencyclopedia.blogspot.co ... -into.html

It's interesting that Wood is most troubled - at least up to the "Asia Series," by the Chronicle appropriations, which to me are probably the least bothersome. Of course, a whole separate issue is whether Dylan actually "wrote" Chronicles, I personally have my doubts, but that's for another post at some other time.

For that matter, how do we know that he painted the Asia Series? I personally have my doubts.
