How to change your avatar:

Go to the top right of this site, look for User Control Panel, click it.

On the next page, look to your left under Options. Click Profile

Now you're able to access "Edit Avatar".

From here it's pretty straight forward. You just need to know that your image has to be smaller than 140x100 pixels. And to make sure that the forums load fast for everybody, your avatar need to be really small in filesize, it has to be less than 10 kilobytes.

When you upload an image, you can set a custom width and height, just leave these blank. This way the avatar will keep it's original size (but you still need to upload an image smaller than 140 pixels wide and 100 pixels high.

Good luck!

I have tried to reduce my personal avatar to 10k... it's almost impossible to do and still see anything. What's the trick?

you could use a little program like IrfanView (free software) to change the size and weight of your avatar. the other alternative would be to upload it somewhere if you have access, and use it with a hard-coded url from another site. tom.paine

IrfanView works for a PC. Does anyone know if there is an equivalent free program for a Mac? iPhoto will change the physical size of a photo, but as far as I can tell, not the file size. Getting under 10k is indeed a challenge.
