Could we have an hour to edit a post? You ever look back and see something you posted earlier and it's all x-ed up? Then it's too late and it's just hanging out there.......

I hope this idea won't be too complicated for you, but how about editing your posts before you send them?

That actually doesn't seem complicated at all.

Yeah, doing it before hand seems to make sense.... but sometimes even when you re-read it... a couple of times... you see what you expect and not what you really wrote.... especially when it is a spelling error..... :? But then I hope that people do what I do with other peoples' post..... read it a couple of times.... figure out what they meant to say .... and then tell myself.... "Oh, am I glad I am not the only one that does that!!!!"

I know what you mean. I wonder if we could lobby for a longer editing time in this suggestions forum. What about 45 minutes?

The problem with having editing times set to more than a few minutes, is that sadly some people will take advantage of this and go back to change whole posts. All subsequent postsin a thread may thereby easily be rendered meaningless.

Take your time and read through your post before posting in the first place. Once you hit Submit, you have in effect said it "forever". This is the internet - and the internet does not forget.

How would you feel about extending the editing time to 35 minutes?

If you post something that you want fixed you can always ask a moderator.

It used to be 30 minutes, and that was a nightmare.

I've already asked them to do just about everything but write my posts for me.

I thought it was still 30 minutes?

What I meant to say is that I've already asked them for enough as it is.

1.) This is why you should always quote the relevant part(s) of the post(s) to which you're responding.

2.) I can't imagine this being a frequent or commonplace occurrence; I've been on lots of message boards with extended editing windows and it doesn't seem to be a big problem. Most people know it's poor etiquette to edit the substance of their posts if someone else has already responded to them, and for those who don't it should be added to the forum guidelines. (Correcting spelling/grammar/formatting errors is fine.)

3.) If someone is deliberately changing posts with the intent or purpose of skewing the meaning of subsequent responses, then obviously this person should be warned and if necessary banned. But that would be a rare instance of troublemaking I should say.

4.) I notice that the "edited by" tag appears automatically if you edit a post after another post has been made, but not before. Is there a way to make the edit function itself work similarly? (ie, until someone responds you can edit indefinitely, but after there has been a response you can only edit for a short time)

What exactly was nightmarish about it?
