Dear Mods,

Can you please speak to the admins about allowing for larger avatars? At the least, can you expand the height to be 140 (the same as the width), to allow for portrait-formatted avatars without reducing them to such a very small size? I don't think I'm alone in feeling that the current parameters leave us a little, well, boxed in:

Greatly appreciated,

Woody

**Represents actually maximum height.

i have to confess the restrictions on sizing pix in general have prevented me posting photos on many occasions - i know some folk have no such problems but i have to jump from photoshop back to quark and so forth so many times to get into the right requirements i always just give up.... and my pix of dylan and baez 'doing it' in 68 are worth it alone, so come on - size up mods!!!!

Okay, maybe I'm a joyless, miserable cxnt, maybe my rudimentary brain is too unsophisticated to grasp this concept "humour" that people have, maybe I'm an austere psychopath or maybe (you might think) I should just get off this whole interweb thing altogether and go back to swimming in the warm shallow Lower Devonian seas with my trilobitian mates, but I say hurrah (a thousand times hurrah) for the current restrictions on avatar and picture sizes. And while we're at it, thanks also for an end to those tedious, banal, sometimes crass, yet always boring after a fifth encounter, "signatures" too.

Who can forget the utter twonk who regaled us with a larger than life size image of Rose McGowan as his avatar (not a Bewitched fan myself, but what other people watch on TV is up to them - it's the enormous silliness of the size I objected to).

Oh, the happy days when a poster mistakenly imagined it was witty or cool or "cutting-edge" to have a full-length full-frontal Italian pornstar as their avatar, big but not gigantic, NSFW though. They remind me of those smart-arse adolescents who think they've discovered a profound human truth when they say everyone likes the smell of their own farts - fair enough - just don't expect the freedom to enjoy yours in a elevator crowded with other people.

Full force support for lager avatars and pix! And the smilies library could use an upgrade too!

Get rid of those emoticons too! A bonfire of the smilies to usher in a new age of spiritual purity and spare, calm elegance - now there's an idea! :)

BTW what does this one  actually mean? Who's laughing at whom, why? It appears in so many contexts ... I'm confused.

I know sometimes it is difficult to understand the smilies in context but they are also good to express something which would take too many words.
For myself I use that one  when I found something is funny and I had to laugh.

Charles, I was not proposing that we have free reign over the size of avatars (and I was not addressing the posting of photos, the parameters of which I find to be reasonable, though I too have to do my share of editing before posting). I'd just like them to be a little larger so that portrait-formatted avatars are far easier to see.

Just to clarify; in my post above I referred to the long-running TV show Bewitched in error - I actually meant the long-running TV show Charmed. How I came to make this strange mistake we'll probably never know, however I'm grateful for the opportunity to correct my blunder and again say that while I love Bewitched I'm not so charmed by Charmed.

I've spent the month of May slowly increasing the size of my avatar..Perhaps you've noticed..

I'm thinking that if I creep up on it, I may be able to sneak past the Mods!
