What does this message mean? I often get it when I try to view new posts or my posts.

Is it a problem with the site? It seems to come & go arbitrarily.

that message means you gotta wait a little while, either you just did a search or the database is having to many users accessing it at once.

Seems to be happening much often lately, and individual posts can take a long time to load, from different computers too. New server? Is ER growing? Whatever it is, I hope the problems are rectified soon, this is usually a very quick loading site (essential for the short attention span folks).

Will try try to repair the forum database - it means the forums will be down for a while.

Allow me to express my thanks to you, Karl, for all you've done here. It's been a grand resource and destination for longer than I can remember.

Still no search - will have to enlist Mad Cow for this!
High server load too - what are people doing? :-)

Seems slow. Probably because Bob announced new show dates in the US and everyone's checking & talking about it.

I'd had no idea that others were having a problem too. I've been having big problems today with loading taking as much as 6-7 minutes, as well as with the "You cannot use the search" message, which, when it appears, prevents forum usage for as long as 30 minutes or more.

Bob just announce a New York date for the fall tour? That's the only reason I can come up with. :D

I seem to be having this problem almost daily anymore, but exclusively in the morning (I'm on Eastern Standard Time). Anyone else?

Sorry but you cannot use search at this time. Please try... happens every day around lunch time (UK time - 13:00 - 14:00 -ish). I've always assumed that maintenance is run on the database at that time. If I want to use the board at that time, I access forums via the index page.

I tend to get it about the same time(s) of day as well. The most irritating thing is how long it takes to load a page...even at work where the connection is top notch and even pages with huge pictures or movies load instantly.

Anything that makes it harder to sneak a peak at work is NO GOOD

I get the "You cannot use the search" message in the mornings constantly until about 9 AM Central time :?

That ties in fairly well with my lunch-time problems - approx 13:00-ish to 14:30-ish GMT every day = 07:00-ish to 08:30-ish Central time.

The same thing seems to happen quite often around midnight GMT (18:00 Central time). I've been unable to use Search for the last half hour...

EDIT: Search available again at 01:00 GMT. Off for 1 hour approx.

me too - around lunchtime and at midnight GMT, very annoying. One can circumvent this by going via the main board onto discussions but it aint the same.... i doubt it is overuse of the forum... we need boffins NOW

The slow loading of threads is an even bigger problem, for me. That wasn't really a problem until recent months...

It still happens on virtually a daily basis.

Fixed that one for you oldmanmenu. :|

As I suggested above, this is probably due to daily database maintenance procedures.

The lunch-time (UK time...) problem seems to be getting longer.

Search has been unavailable since noon GMT. It is now 3:00 pm GMT. Search has been unavailable for 3 hours and counting.

Have admins or the owners queried this with the service provider?

Not whining. You can access the forums via the Board Index. But maybe an explanation/promise of an investigation from the service provider might be in order?

EDIT: Or maybe change the message to suggest we try again in a few hours rather than a few minutes, to reflect the real world.

I experience this too. At first I thought it was my computer, but all other sites open quickly on multiple tabs. So, there must be something that's bogging things down.

I imagine this isn't just me: the Search function has been unavailable today since at least 10:30 GMT (it's now 16:45 GMT). I wonder what's going on? Has the service provider commented yet?
