This applies to the front page at http://expectingrain.com/

A few weeks ago I was told by Google that my site needed to be faster. A report especially suggested I Leverage browser caching.
I added an HTTP-EQUIV="EXPIRES" line to the main page, and later also a 'last-modified content' line.
However, this has led to problems for a few, maybe ten readers, who tell me they don't see the latest updates of the page.
- As nobody has written to express their joy at a faster loading page, I conclude that the recipe has failed.
As of today, I am removing those two lines of code. I'd like to hear from you if you have comments on this.

I, too, went more than a week without seeing any updates on expectingrain, despite routinely checking back on the site. I wondered why I wasn't seeing any new links. Eventually I clicked on the refresh button and now I see the new links every day without any extra work. So the change didn't immediately work for me, but has worked fine subsequently.

Hello Karl Erik,

ah, that's the reason :D Since a few weeks, when I look at your site, I look at the same site I leave last time. But after pressing the F5 Button it refreshes to the actual content.

Strange.

cheers and thank you for all your work and this sites of endless information 'bout Bob and so many more.

I am using Internet Browser 9 and the page does not refresh - naturally, I assumed this was my fault!!
Best wishes

I had the same problem too. I didn't complain because I thought that the problem was with my computer.

Me, too. It started happening (for me) around Bob's birthday. I thought it was strange there wasn't a new front page since we always celebrate this day.

geraniumkiss is having the same issue. I answered a PM from her when she asked me about it. Hitting refresh loaded the front page for her, too.

Ohh!! So that's it!! I went much more than one week without updates. First it stopped updating on the 15th May and stayed like that for a week or so, now I can see until the 27th May!!! I thought the problem was with my computer! I had to open another window to get updates. I'm gonna try to press the F5 button. :?

SO THAT'S IT!!!!

I was at my sister's house. She lives in the boonies and still only has dial-up and I figured that was MY problem. But I'm home now and all seems well.

I never thought the front page loaded to slowly. Why would Google complain KE? Is it something to do with some arrangement you have with them and they are banging the corporate hammer??

Same here as others have found - but like them I can just hit the refresh button and all is well.

I too assumed it was my computer, and a cookie issue -- each day for the last two weeks, I've emptied my browsing history cache to be able to get the update!

"Why would Google complain KE?"

They did not complain. When I checked ou the stats for my Google Ads (which last month earned from $1 to $9 per day), there was some advice on how to improve the page. I wanted to try it out, but as you see, I have decided to leave it as it was. (Good to see that many people have discovered the F5/Refresh button!)

I just noticed the Isis Digest has a simple "To ensure that you are looking at the lastest updates please refresh your browser" at the top of the page. It might an idea, Karl. Thanks as always for running a great site.
