Bob Dylan is coming to the Tower Theater
The Philly Inquirer

For two nights!

The Nobel Prize-winning bard is on a fall headlining tour with his band, with a series of shows that began Oct. 13 in Valley Center, Calif.

The tour makes its Philadelphia stop Nov. 11 and 12 — Dylan’s first since releasing Triplicate, his 2017 three-disc set of songs associated with Frank Sinatra, earlier this year. Gospel great Mavis Staples, whose new Jeff Tweedy-produced album, If All I Was Was Black, is due Nov. 17, is set to open both shows.

In other Dylan news, Conor McPherson’s play Girl From the North Country, featuring loads of Dylan songs, is a big hit in London, and has to be coming to Broadway in the new year, doesn’t it? And Joan Osborne has just released a Songs of Bob Dylan tribute album. Not to mention Old Crow Medicine Show, who rejuvenated a Dylan classic this year at the Philadelphia Folk Fest.

This place is across the street from the venue. It's the only place close. Nothing special. Look for yourself. My group are meeting in Center City for dinner and drinks before the show.
Have fun!!

Going tonight and Sunday.

Me and my buddy tonight.....the guy who turned me on to Bob, and the person who was with me at my first 13 Bob shows.

My Bob By The Numbers:

The only time I've seen Bob @ The Tower, was March 29, 2014.....its also the only time I've seen Bob in March.

The first time I saw Bob in Philadelphia was my 11th Bob Show.....and today is 11/11.

The last and only time I saw Bob @ The Tower, was my 13th Bob show.....and tonight is my 13th time seeing Bob in Philadelphia.

This will be my 16th Bob Show with my buddy....and he's a Philly sports fan......and his All-Time favorite son of Philadelphia....is......# 16......I'll let you figure that one out......wink, wink.

Hey, sue me....I like numbers ?

Feels like these 2 shows will be a strong summary of the entire Fall Tour.
Gotta love a back-to-back Theater run!

Glad for all of you making it! Enjoy!

Mavis must be singing about keeping marching right about now.
Man, she can slug out the vocals with feeling.

I have seen bob quite a few times in the past 13 years and he was best I have ever seen him Saturday night. Once upon a time was fantastic, desolation row was great, and thunder on the mountain was the best version iv ever heard. I read this forum a lot and I don't usually post but I had to tonight. Great show Bob!

Ps the only thing I can't quite say I like is the new version of tangled up in blue.....

Eep! On the train up to Philly now. ER never ceases to bring out the rabid fan in me. Was keeping it cool until I saw these posts and now just trying not to hyperventilate.

Saw John Cleese in Richmond on Friday. It was weird to be somewhere Bob was playing and not see him. My husband joked I could've caught a ride up to Philly with Bob and then a ride back down to DC since we're seeing him there on Tuesday. Bob, if you're reading this and there's room on the bus, lemme know.

Tonight is my break the bank front row center it's only money night. I don't think I'll believe it until I'm there. Row AAA, seat 115, on the center aisle I think. Just in case anyone's there and sees me flipping my lid. :!: :D :!:

Chester, I'm an ER gadfly, but I always enjoy your posts. I'm glad we'll be at the show "together!"

Be still my heart, sounds like it's gonna be a special night.

Enjoy the show, everyone!

This was my 5th time seeing Bob and both posters above(Shane and Cowboy) are spot on. Bob and the band were just phenomenal. His band is truly great!! Special kudos to the drummer. I found myself focusing on him quite a bit because he's just so impressive!
I was very reluctant a few years back to pay large amounts of money to see someone whose voice seemed to be toast but I saw him in 2014 and was happy to see/hear that a transformation had occurred. Last night continued the trend. Yes, the voice still has the raspy quality you would expect from a 76 year old but his voice is strong and clear and he doesn't appear to struggle at all holding notes etc.
I was also very impressed with his piano playing. He's no Chuck Levell but he rocks away with it in a very Bob way.
I had been keeping an eye on the set lists so I knew what to expect and was easily able to follow what was being played. What's funny is my brother who was with me said he only could recognize 1 or 2 songs. Though not as big a fan as me he knows Dylan well. Interesting different perspectives.
There were several songs that really shook the place but as was said above Thunder on the Mountain was    but in the best possible way.
A funny note. Though there was a mike stand front and center Bob never used it. Instead he stayed back by Tony doing his mike stand bit. At one point the base of his mike stand banged into Tony's stand up bass and there was an audible thud. The expression on Dylan's face was priceless!! Then a little while later Bob was concentrating doing his thing again and Tony had to shimmy around Bob stand up in tow so as not to bump into the maestro. Great, fun stuff !!

Also, Mavis and her band need to be mentioned. They came on literally just as we sat down( planned that way, we didn't want to miss her). At first I wasn't impressed with her band but they soon got it going and they were great. And I loved her banter with the audience.
Love you Mavis!!

Bob will have his work cut out to beat last night but for those attending I hope he does!!

All previous accounts are on spot.

I have to give major props out front to the crew......sound was excellent !

jimb727 on target with bobs vocals.....strong and clear....and his piano....for me, especially on Love Sick, where I think he carried the song.

Loved Charlie's guitar breaks in Early Roman Kings.....one stand out.....the others for me, (which non of the recordings I've heard have captured)....It Ain't Me Babe / HW 61 / Tangled.....LOVED IT / Honest / Heaven / Desolation Row / and Thunder was off the charts.......from the standards.....he nailed September of My Years, and as usual, Autumn Leaves.

...oh and an almost close encounter of the Bob kind......after show, walking the path behind the venue to the parking deck.....see open door at top of some steps.....door open fronting me so cant see behind it......woman walks up excitedly....says a few words, turns around walks down steps....as I'm walking past I glance over...I'm about 30 feet away ?......see someone crouched down.....sitting on his heels having a smoke.....its friggin Charlie !.......all alone and NO ONES around.......and I didn't go up to him, or say anything..........damn......can't get that one back....

Well......anyway......Bob Show # 71 for me tonight............tonight with the Mrs., (who has 1 or 2 more shows than me)........she is gonna love this show.....no doubt......

Keep ur lid on mlpalintologist............it will be worth it......see ya later

Good eye, Major Minor!
Um, maybe Narrow Way would represent a mood swing.
But Scarlet?

Well, my lid done flipped. Kill me now and I'll die happy, because that was me down front, directly in front of the piano, making a dancing fool of myself, especially during Thunder on the Mountain. The Bob and I exchanged a bit of eye contact, and I'm going to allow myself to think I even got a smile or two. At any rate, let the record show that he was enjoying himself, and smiles were in evidence.

There's nothing I can really add to Chester's excellent account. (And congrats on that Charlie sighting!) It was an incredible night - the arrangements are fantastic and the band was as tight as I've heard them.

I really kind of loved the sight line I had because when I was sitting down, I had a straight shot at Bob's feet under the piano. There's something about watching those white boots and those little bird legs bouncing around under the keyboard that just tickles me.

On to DC on Tuesday. And I'll close with this... If you ever get the chance to go for front row, do it. It's an experience like no other.

Thanks, Bobby.

P.S. Jimb reminds me, and rightly so, that I shouldn't post without mentioning how wonderful Mavis was. She was in fine form, and just listening to her restores a lot of my faith in humanity -- a minor miracle in itself.
