sorry Barefoot you had to ask? kiss

like Lana in her new song referencing Bob and Sam Cooke
Lana Del Rey - Change https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7XXYGOLriA

Elvis only played three places in Richmond, the Lyric, the Mosque, the Coliseum.
the Lyric is gone.

The only two places Bob has played in Richmond since returning these past few years
has been the Mosque and the Coliseum.

I've never been to Spain but I've been to Oklahoma
and I am so glad Bob is playing the Coliseum it means a lot

Missed Uniondale...too complex a plan...fell apart on me tonight.
Might be in the Richmond region, kind of, though...
... and if the stars align (many of them need to!) who knows?
...may squeak this one in.

Would rather the 2 Phillies, since they are back-to-back AND theater shows instead of arena,
but that’s also falling apart before my eyes. At the mercy of clients...

If none of these work out , then maybe further north the next week?
Have eyes on Albany. Nice quaint size venue!
Will take it as it comes. Never know.
Won’t give up. Must see this Honest, Thunder & Tryin’ in these arrangements somehow.
Love the tapes! Thanks Booters!!!

If you heard Mavis, Barefoot, you won ... but I made it in time for Bobs set including tonight's strong end into encores.

I did find that fairy dust ticket in an empty dancing section. Standin, dancing or sitting I witnessed the latest arrangements of a never ending set. Thanks for that. My reflections can't explain the depth of my experience with the music. I know the lyrics and can keep musical time. By saying I feel the switched up arrangements are what bands I know do Mon Tues Wed 10 to 2 and Fri & Sat 12 to the break of dawn and not during their headline might lead you to think it was anything less than awesome. New and old can sometimes clash, live well... I don't mind I hv an open heart and all the patience I need. At the end, tradition ruled and within that familiar, the boundaries got pushed and voila synergy. Frankie and all.

desolation row AWESOME! Like fire and ice

Thank you Bob and Company. I am sorry I missed you Ma Staples.

Dig it!

Snuck into the venue just in time for Mavis after several stouts.
Long line due to security setup.
Snagged a seat in Row 2 directly in front of Bob’s piano.
A little too close, as I could only see his head when he was sitting down.
Mavis was wonderful, as usual.

Solid Bob Show! Band is tight.
Was able to catch up on sleep during the Standards and have a little rest between Bob tunes.
This arrangement of Tangled has matured nicely over the Fall.

Obvious highlights were:
Honest, Heaven, Summer Days, Tangled, Desolation, ERK & Thunder.
And one of the better Things in sometime. Love the dramatic effect during the last half of the song!
A strong & short Hwy 61. And a slowly delivered Love Sick.

Only one person stood & danced in the front row.
Watched a few folks get booted for taking photos.

Bob had black shirt, no hat, white belt/boots/jacket.
Black pants with white piping. Seemed happy.
The boys were all in blue

Great drummers out front afterwards.
And more brew.

Would like to catch one more, preferably Albany.
The next double stop at Tower will rock, Chester.
Have fun!

thanks Barefoot, glad you said all that and your faithful travels are mighty impressive.

i'm speechless, so was going to post a few hours ago my review as just this:

Paul Page - Castaway https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zrIhF2UEZ8o

Bob is a castaway kids. i had been thinking of bob/kilroy was here,
then saw Paul Page had sung a song with that title in 1946,
wanted to hear it, then only the song Paul Page wrote and sang "Castaway" first came up, when
i thought - weird! that surreal elegance actually sounds like the show tonite!

then started thinking, wait those first chords!, it sounds like the song i played in my cd player to stay awake
on the way down 95 to the show, the cd sitting there i haven't played in a year, "that's when your heartaches begin"
Paul Page's whole schtick was Atomic Tiki Elvis!
and out of all the synChronic songs to hear!, does this mean Bob is Paul Page or Elvis or they are all Jean Ritchie and Artaud love children, only Mr Roboto knows!, the circle is squared once again!

then the "Kava Kon - Palace Of Tiger Women" song auto-played next while i was reading Paul Page's wild life (bedded 400 women he says!) and i thought wait! that Kava Kon really is Atomic Tiki,
then saw yipes! wha? Chinese Surfer? it's even more like the show all over again!

Not sure about “mysterious,” but quite astute Chester.
Had to drive 4+ hrs to make this one and then another few hours after the show, to catch a morning flight elsewhere....unfortunately, not Philly, as hoped.

Haven't read this yet, about to:

Bob Dylan plays his own hits, covers others at the Richmond Coliseum
Richmond Times Dispatch - By HAYS DAVIS Special correspondent - 14 hrs ago

Whether he was tackling favorites from his revered catalog or breathing life into well-worn covers, Bob Dylan was a magnetic presence throughout Friday night’s show at the Richmond Coliseum.

With recent albums, including this year’s triple-disc “Triplicate,” Dylan lovingly explored the American songbook, and a quarter of Friday’s set explored those releases. The band wrapped “Why Try to Change Me Now” in a lush setting, while Dylan’s fondness for “Melancholy Mood” shone through in his performance.

For “Once Upon a Time,” Dylan took the center of the stage in a wide stance, owning a song with an origin dating back to the time of his own debut album. In his white jacket and shoes, he leaned into his mic to pour all he had into “Autumn Leaves,” prompting one of the night’s biggest responses.

The back of the stage was draped with heavy curtains, and a row of rear lights set a hazy, comfortable tone, with the effect blurring a distinction between the decades spanning the evening’s set list. At one point, a burst of stars was projected over the curtains, and along with some scattered lights behind the musicians, the band appeared to be playing a porch party during “Soon After Midnight.”

For years, Dylan has approached older material with fresh arrangements, turning them into new (and, sometimes, maybe even bewildering) experiences for his audiences that are likely as invigorating for the performer as they are for the crowd.

“It Ain’t Me Babe” was driven at this show by a pulsing beat, while “Tangled Up in Blue” was in full disguise as a staccato rhythm nudged Dylan through an intriguing rewrite of his 1975 hit. Standing at his piano, Dylan led his quintet of players through a powerful “Highway 61 Revisited,” pounding the keys and seeming to enjoy tearing into one of the set’s older tunes.

Friday’s show also highlighted the strength of some of Dylan’s 2000s material, and his animated vocals seemed to underscore his enthusiasm for those albums. 2012’s “Tempest” album offered some of the night’s strongest performances, particularly with a well-received “Pay in Blood” and “Early Roman Kings.”

As he moved during the show between his piano and center stage, Dylan didn’t speak a word between songs, but what he continued to offer within those songs made him as compelling as ever.

Mavis Staples, who rose to fame as a member of her family’s group, The Staple Singers, was the show’s opener. “My father, Pops Staples, wrote that for the big march,” Staples said of the song “Freedom Highway.” “Selma to Montgomery. I was there. And I’m still here.”

Staples grabbed the audience from the start and carried them with her throughout her set. As her players provided backing that was alternately smooth and fiery, she sounded as strong as ever.

Songs from her new album, “If All I Was Was Black,” including “Building a Bridge,” were well-received, as was a take on Buffalo Springfield’s “For What It’s Worth.” For “I’ll Take You There,” a 1972 Staple Singers hit, Staples indeed took the crowd there, leading the group like an impassioned revival leader.

“When we come back, we’re bringing the record people and we’re making a record,” Staples declared. Pointing at the crowd, she added, “You sound that good!”

EDIT: Just read this. Kinda lost him for the first 4 or 5 paragraphs.
Hilarious that he didn't even mention any of the night's most interesting performances, besides being bewildered by Tangled and touching on ERK.

Holy Key Frequency, Batman! On the train now but I'll post the couple of pics he snapped (piano only, no Bob) when I get home.

Bob's piano from another perspective. The gentleman also posted a pic of what I assume is his personal tool chest / case for his tuning apparatus, but as it contained personal photos, etc. I thought best not to include that.
