As someone else has noted the new arrangement of Honest With Me borrows the Beach Boys' Dance Dance Dance riff to great effect- and I just realized the new surfy Thunder on the Mountain is using the riff (and the first guitar solo) from Shut Down Pt. II- someone's been listening to some Beach Boys lately... I really like the new sounds - different from the summer tour to be sure. Akron was excellent and looking forward to Pittsburgh tomorrow!

Wow. Cool info thanks.

Yes, thanks for the specifics. The first thing my brother said after the Vegas show was that he sure did like the Beach Boys sound on TOTM....grave

Appreciate those observations Scratch!
Was never a huge Beach Boys fan, but sure do like the effect on these tunes!

After several listens to shows this year, and being in attendance in Columbus, "Trying To Get To Heaven" also borrows from "Don't Worry Baby". Another Beach Boys tune. He's really digging that sound right now apparently. Perhaps because the latest tour/material they are pushing began in California last year? Not sure what to make of it.

^Also sounds like the Zevon cover from a couple years back. And Joni Mitchell! Weird!

Wow, that was quite obvious. Maybe Bob is into Oldies stuff lately?

But Shut Down Part II really is a deep cut so that I doubt if Bob is familiar with the song.

Shut Down on the Mountain and Dance Honest With Me!

I finally dug deep to find those (not really a Beach Boys fan) and boom, you nailed it, Scratchy & others. Great sleuthing!

Here's 'Shut Down Part II' for those that haven't heard it yet.

Thank you Beach Boys for providing a fresh foundation for my favorite Thunder, to date.

Now that is an interesting observation.

Yeah, great to hear those Beach Boys songs now! I can't make out the connection to Don't Worry Baby-Heaven though. Can someone explain what the link is?

Interestingly, I went to see Daniel Lanois and his band, (or, trio, really) at a small venue here in Quebec on Sunday night. Not to complain, but now that I listen to bob, haha there's nothing really "new" about his arrangements, haha. Lanois music is so refreshingly new I almost couldn't handle the beauty of it. my 2 cents

When they started Honest With Me, my wife thought they were gonna play Wipeout.

I'm not sure if her observation is musically accurate, but it made me laugh.

Finally got around to hearing a show, and I like the new Tangled. It reminds me of those old Johnny Cash that would change key every verse, and in combination with the way he cuts every other chorus it's a pretty brilliant reinvention, really.

That's hilarious. Not only because I'm an idiot but because it shows just how well the arrangement shifts threw me off balance on first hearing.

The recent Love Sick is so daft.
Fall 2015 version had much more power and worked beautifully as the closer.

I don’t know if Daft is the word.
...certainly agree on the power of the 2015 Love Sick, set the bar.

Maybe, half-baked.
The song does scream for more oomph.

 so the Surfaris recorded Wipe Out after this, Ron Wilson really punched it out and

George is all so brilliantly symphonic metal on it in Thunder

Morphine - Buena https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZjZBe6o78M
