Bob Dylan to play first concert at new DePaul hoops arena in Chicago
Chicago Tribune

Bob Dylan will play the inaugural concert at the new arena by McCormick Place, Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced Monday.

Chicago native Mavis Staples is slated to join Dylan at the Oct. 27 concert at Wintrust Arena. The concert is part of Dylan’s fall U.S. tour, which is scheduled to kick off in Southern California in October and wrap up in Boston in November. Tickets for the Chicago show are set to go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday via Ticketmaster.

The Cermak Road arena, which seats more than 10,000 fans, will soon host DePaul University men’s and women’s basketball games and eventually the WNBA’s Sky home games.

Oh yeah, Bob and halloween season in Chicago is on! I was hesitant about an arena size show, but Bob usually delivers for them. So I will surely be there.

Incidently, there will be a meetup for those attending:

three floors of music filled spaces (two bars and one record shop). Also provides a shuttle one half hour before showtime.

5:30/6ish start time for meet up at upstairs bar (rooftop).
After show could be cool too, they usually have live music.

I'll be wearing a stocking cap!

Still hoping against hope that somehow I'll be able to make it. Will surely try to meet up if I do.

Last time he played an arena here he opened with Sweet Home Chicago on guitar. Here’s hoping for another surprise!

Same here. Really hoping to make it to this one but not sure yet if I can pull it out.

C’mon you two!

I know the Chicago traffic sucks and it costs money and life’s a bitch, etc.,
But really?!?!?

For me it’s a matter of getting there. I’m just a poor college student who lives about 130 miles from the city. Should I start hitching now?

Hmm, having hitched through Chicago in earlier days, I can say it was quite difficult & wouldn’t recommend it.
I thought you & Smoke were right there. I get it.
Anyhow, if you really want to do something, there’s always a way.
Hope you find it!

Very excited to hear Tryin to get to Heaven. Have always wanted to hear it live, but always missed it by a day or two. Avoiding recordings of the current tour, so it’ll be fresh to my ears.

Flying in from NYC with my gf tomorrow for this one. I have nothing but fantastic memories from yesteryear, my college days at the University of Chicago, catching Bob in this city.

Halloween Night 2000 at Northwestern University; the epic United Center show 10/27/01 on the Love & Theft tour--23 songs with an 8 song encore; the goodbye Charlie/Zevon piano tour fall '02 at Allstate and the 4-night Spring '04 stand at the Aragon, Riviera, Riv and Park West in successive nights.

I'm sure Mavis will be excited to be back home as well...

Wonderful. Safe travels.

I attended all of those shows save the ’04 Aragon. I made up for the Aragon omission by taking in Bob’s 3 night stand there in ’09. (Stu did a pretty fair Waits one night, to the delight of all.) Yes, the UC ’01 was Epic. Very much so. Book rewritten yet again. Goosebump time for both Accidently Like a Martyr and Mutineer at All-State in '02.

Looking forward to the show. Wouldn’t dare miss it.

*Vic* not *Riv*... and it was the best show of that stand by far; one of the best ever Larry solos on Love Sick that night, the debut of the new/fast Moonlight and a bra or hat thrown on stage during the encore from the close overhanging boxes.

I’ll be there! Section 123, row C. Floor seats were way too expensive, so I settled for the side. Hopefully I’ll still be able to see Bob when he’s at the piano.

Section 103, row E here. I'm not sure where I'm staying tonight yet, it might even be at the Greyhound for an early bus back to Green Bay via Milwaukee, but I knew I'd regret not making this happen.

I'll wave to y'all from Section 03. Though there have been shows in between, I'm hoping for a night as revelatory as the last time I saw Bob in Chicago, in November of '14. Bob playing Chicago, in the bitter darkness of an autumn night, is where I like best to be.
