Woooo! Very strict this go around. No phones allowed out of pockets past the front door. "No questions asked, we see glow, you got to go." No strikes and you're out

Was wondering when it might come to this...good for them.
Makes the set list a bit tough for those arm-chairing it though.

Have fun T&T!

Same set... I believe it can officially be called the New SET now?

Bob was not happy for the first half. Lots of talking to the band between songs, shaking his head at Tony, and general grimacing. Don't know what the deal was, sound was fantastic.

The show was just straight up great. Bob has this down to an art, obviously. The same compliments that have been paid since Vegas were true tonight. Lots of upsinging on Make You Feel My Love though.

Pink silk shirt with an ascot same color and fabric.

White boots with black bottom

Black suit with white floral pattern up legs and on cuffs.

Hat on and off, off at piano only

I don't know what that dude is talking about. Bobby didn't get within 10 feet of the audience. Maybe gave = bought one for $120

Or it was back in the days when he actually did hand out harmonicas

Welp, I'm wrong and admit it. I just talked to a guy that said there was a kid playing guitar in the back by the busses, Dylan heard him and brought him a harmonica. Super jealous, but that kid has a hell of a story now.

I'm here to set the record straight. Instead of typing everything out again, I'm just going to repost the Facebook stays I wrote about my encounter with Bob.

First though, I want to tell everyone how helpful this forum has been, I've been lurking the past few weeks and the set list and tour discussion is just great.

Secondly, I made up my mind a long time ago that if I ever got to meet Bob Dylan, I wouldn't ask for a picture (doesn't like his picture taken) and I wouldn't ask him for an autograph. A harp is what I wanted.

I really didn't want to ask him any questions that would annoy him, I didn't want to treat him like God, I just wanted to treat him like a human. Therefore, I didn't ask him about the Nobel prize, because IMHO considering the circumstances I feel as though that could have been extremely disrespectful.

Here is my Facebook post in its entirety:

Update: I remembered how the conversation got started- he asked me to play him something and I asked him what he wanted to hear. Then it went from there.

To all my Facebook people- I just met Bob Dylan.

For those of you don't know, I've been Hard Core obsessed with Bob Dylan since May 20th. The people who say don't meet your heroes haven't met my hero.

I pulled up to the Brady at noon today, one the local security guys talked to me for a bit and I got it out of him that Bob's bus would be on the other side of the building next to the green room door. I pulled around to where the orange cones were that represented where his bus would be, and I parked my car in the next available spot feet away. For the next 4 hours, I would talk to lots of cool people, sing and play lots of Bob Dylan songs, and walk the perimeter of the Brady a few times. At around 4'o'clock I sat back down in my car and checked social media. The next thing I knew there were security guys standing in the orange cones area next to my parking spot. I got out of the car and asked the man if it was "about time," he responded "I have no idea what you're talking about." I came back explaining that I was told Bob's bus would be parked here. He then gave me a somewhat-intimidating monologue on how I wasn't going to meet Bob Dylan.

At this point I get my guitar and harp back out of my car, sitting on the hood of my car, I continued to sing Bob Dylan tunes. I couldn't tell what the security guard thought. A bus started to turn the corner, it parked within the orange cones and it was the band's bus. They exited and went to the door. Some of them nodded at the group of us.

The next bus around the corner was almost certainly Bob's. It drove past my car and backed in in such a manner that the bus door was almost perfectly aligned with the stage door, so that Bob would only have to walk a few feet.

He came down the stairs of the bus and turned and saw all of us and immediately jerked back behind the cover of his bus door. I was playing Maggie's Farm.

The timing of the song was perfect. As he walked past and into the stage door I was singing (loud enough to get his attention)

"The National Guard stands around his door, oh I ain't gonna work for Maggie's Farm no more."

Although he was covered by the stage door, I could see him stop to talk to some of the guards, he walked down the steps into the Green Room, and the next thing I know, the same security/bodyguard who had delivered the somewhat-intimidating monologue was pointing at me and beckoning me. At first I thought I had pissed Bob off. But apparently I had gotten his attention with an perfectly timed Dylanesque Sarcastic Crack. (Using a Dylan line to get Dylan's attention?!)

It worked out and the next thing I knew this same security guard was asking me my name. I started down the stairs and the guard said "Mr. Dylan, this is Will"

I got down the stairs- he was wearing the hood up on his green hoodie and aviators. The conversation we had is a blur now- but it went something like this:

Will: *trying to keep composure*
Bob: Nice to meet you Will (not 100% sure how the convo started, I know he complimented my playing and asked if I played in school)
W: oh my god it's nice to meet you too *shaking* do you have a C Harp I can borrow?
BD: ahh I don't- what key is that one?
Will: it's C, just the reed is kind of messed up.
BD: alright I'm sure we can get you a C
Harp. You write any songs Will?
W: there's this song I'm working on but every time it just comes out like Don't Think Twice, It's Alright. *I start to play it, can't sing, extremely self conscious that the changes are the same as Don't Think Twice- I give up*
BD: hey I like the way that guitar sounds.
W: yeah it's a Little Martin, *almost losing composure* do you want it?? *I show him the Woody Guthrie sticker on the back*
W: can I just shake your hand??
BD: well let's see how this goes first.
W: okokok Do you-
BD: I ain't got time to talk man, I wanna hear this song.
W: ok here's the chorus it's a little different from Don't Think Twice.
*starts to play and sing the chorus, messes up, restarts, gets through it after rushing the changes a little bit*
That's most of what I got for it.
BD: that's all you got? Pretty good, have you written any other songs?
W: We're writing one in my blues band right now, it's about a different girl. We're called Fahrenheit 145
BD: That's great Will, hey I've got to go, but it was nice to meet you.
W: it was nice to meet you too. *I'm shaking, and fighting back tears at this point*

I get outside and all the people who were waiting with me are waiting on me and I pretty much collapse to the ground and start bawling.

TL;DR:

I met Bob Dylan.

That's amazing, Will! Thanks for sharing.

Unless I missed it, did Bob hand you the harp or did one of his staff do it later on?

Incredible story!

Must have been the thrill of a lifetime. Always glad to hear stories of Bob randomly interacting with the fans, to slightly combat the myth of him being constantly hidden away from everyone like Howard Hughes or something.

Thanks for sharing. And congrats!

Welcome to ER Hurricane Slim!
Helluva first post.
Sounds like fun!

As Nappy asked, so how did the C Harp end up in your hands?
Did Bob give it to you right there? send it out? or come back? or call you back in? Or something else?

T&T: thanks for the report. Glad you made it!

Prediction:
An army of young guitarists playing Maggie's Farm upon each bus arrival from here on out, while the National Guard stands around his door.

Will, that's a moment of a thousand lifetimes right there... congratulations! And amazing that you could keep your composure enough to talk, much less play your guitar. I'd be a puddle.
