Looking Good :)

Where do you believe the tour will begin and finish? It's been discussed a little about the beginning, but any other speculation?

Beginning in April until when Late May?

Well, it would fit in with Sweden in April. he usually starts up North, ending in the South.

I agree. It seems more and more likely we will see a Euro Spring Tour.
It sure has been awhile since there's been a Spring Tour in Europe!
Sometimes a look at historical data helps us predict the future (less with Bob though, ha ha)

Anyhow, here are some fun
Tour stats over the past Decade

Most recent Euro Spring Tour years: 2009 (8 weeks) & 2007 (6 weeks)

Opening City for the last 2 Euro Spring Tours: Stockholm

Number of Spring Tour weeks, on average, since 2010: less than 5 weeks/Spring Tour

If forced to predict, I'd guess:
A 6-wk Spring Euro Tour in 2017, beginning with satisfying the Nobel duties.

Nice to refer to: I've got other gigs already booked for end March - end May but have now closed the diary to any new dates just in case.

Interesting that those last 2 spring tours focused largely on northern Europe .
If there is one next year perhaps he'll also go further south - certainly if there is anything in the italy rumour.
Generally warmer down there !

Also with a few exceptions , 2007 /09 had quite large venues. I went to a few of those gigs and even the large venues were reasonably full. Notwithstanding the nobel prize I have a feeling his popularity as a live artist has waned a little in the intervening years..... Things have changed a little.

not too surprising since in 2006 and 2008 the tour focused very much on Southern Europe (especially Italy and Spain)

Most-likely already asked, but

When did we receive the first news of the Spring 2016 tour? Around December?

I think the official announcement came mid-December. IIRC, there were some dates leaked a few weeks earlier.

Sandy is correct.
We had Japanese chatter in mid-Nov & then knew what was up with the Japan tour before Christmas hit.

The difference being that Japan was a one country tour, set up by one promoter.

Even if the Sweden and Italy rumours are true, we still don't know much about the actual routing of the tour.

That's not saying much though, as the last two EU Spring tours you mentioned both had shows in Italy. If at all, I'd say we should expect a pretty similar routing to 2007 and 2009 (which were almost identical, except that the UK shows came at the end of one and halfway through in the other)

I've seen a BEAT THE STREET Nightliner this morning.
Is this a sign?

True.

So, this will not be the start of the 2017 Season.

I'd expect some continental and/or Scandinavian dates to precede the UK stint.

Most certainly. Traditionally, early May would be the end of a spring tour. If it sells, maybe another London date, but perhaps not very likely.

Starting in Scandinavia, ending in the UK. The logical route, as in the past few decades. It's not like there will be any massive changes in procedure. Everything as usual.
