^The balladeer in stage-clothes enjoying singing with real feeling and communicating that he wanted to be there and for us to listen, you mean that persona?

Not on all songs. There's plenty of songs its got no place in. Mr Tambourine Mam comes to mind.

2000 was the year I went to every gig of the UK tour. From Aberdeen to Portsmouth.
Travelled with a friend and all we got was more enthusiastic after every gig.
It was a fantastic tour!
Trying to get my head around this ' nasty undertone'.... not something i identified at the time or recognise retrospectively.
Here's ' Gates of eden' from 2000.

Brilliant :D

Thanks very much, Cohen! That's exactly what I needed right now.

Now I'll probably have to go find that show...

The show was pretty uninspired up until "Gates Of Eden". Then he broke a string and put all he had into the singing instead of concentrating on getting his two chords on the guitar right. "Gates Of Eden" is still one of my favorite song performances I ever got to see live.

The second half was pretty amazing. One surprise after another, including European debuts of "Things Have Changed" and "Down Along The Cove". He also did "Tomorrow Is A Long Time" and "Ring Them Bells" the next night. Not a bad weekend!

Perry uninspired until "Gates"? Just listen to "It's Alright, Ma" - and you see how wrong this statement is, that you read also in other reviews. I was in 1st row, we saw clearly, that Bob had trouble/issue/problems with his acoustic guitar. That energy seemed to flow in the performance, making "Gates" the "Isis 2.0" that night. But Cologne had awesome moments also before that song. I was happy with Cologne and all the other '00 shows, I attended. Everybody happy? Obviously not...

I was in 1st row, we saw clearly, that Bob had trouble/issue/problems with his acoustic guitar. That energy seemed to flow artistically positive in the performance, making "Gates" a kind of "Isis 2.0" that night. But Cologne had awesome moments also before that song. So: Cologne was awesome from the beginning. But it is interesting, that other people obviously did not feel the same. I felt happy with every Dylan concert I have attended since 1995. By the way: Has anyone captured Bob during "Gates" in Cologne on Photo or Video?

Like it's been said before - last one is most definitely 1999-2000.

How about 1981? Like 1974, people were happy to get (some) of the old Bob back, no?

I remember boos at earls court in 1981 when the girls did the opening songs and as bob started. I think they were all gone about three songs in though
