Bob Dylan live in Athens!

Athens, GREECE - Ask any self respecting rock fan and they’ll tell you when it comes to music legends, there’s Bob Dylan, then the Beatles and the Stones and then there’s everybody else. The 72 year old veteran has been tirelessly touring the world almost nonstop for more than 25 years with the amply called “Never Ending Tour”.

During this time, he has visited Athens three times, once in the mid ‘80s (when he had Van Morrison as an unexpected guest on stage), once in the early ‘90s in Lycabetus theater and once three years ago. Speculation had been rising (earlier this year) that he might be visiting Greece again this year.

It’s a fact. Bob Dylan will be touring the country again this summer, appearing not just in Athens, but in Thessaloniki as well. Exciting news for his legion of fans in our part of the world – Dylan enjoys an impressive level of undiminishing popularity among all generational groups.

Although the dates have yet to appear in his online concert calendar, it has been confirmed by concert promoter Nikos Loris that Dylan will be appearing in the Thessaloniki port on June 22 and in Athens’ Terra Vibe summer concert venue the following day.

With the Simple Minds concert in Technopolis and the big Rockwave concert line up shaping up, the Dylan concerts are a great addition to what is emerging as a hot live summer in the country.

FLASHBACK 1989: Bob Dylan and Van Morrison Jam on an Athens Hilltop

From: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/video ... z34hyPkTzx

Bob Dylan's 1989 summer European tour wrapped up with a pair of shows in Greece. During an off-day, Dylan and Van Morrison climbed onto the picturesque Hill of the Muses in Athens for a stunning four-song acoustic set that thankfully was captured by cameras for the BBC documentary Arena: One Irish Rover - Van Morrison in Performances. They began with Morrison classics "Crazy Love" and "And It Stoned Me," but the clear highlight was the 1986 Morrison obscurity "Foreign Window," featuring Dylan on harmonica and Van on guitar and vocals. They wrapped up the set with a duet on "One Irish Rover." Check out both songs in this incredible video.

Van Morrison's Sixties garage rock band Them released a cover of Bob Dylan's "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue" in 1966, and a few years later Morrison began regularly performing "Just Like A Woman" at his solo shows. But he didn't actually share a stage with Dylan until The Last Waltz in 1976. They teamed up for a handful of shows on Dylan's 1984 European tour, and the very day after this stunning performance on the Hill of the Muses, Morrison came out during Dylan's encore to perform "Crazy Love" and "And It Stoned Me." In 1998 they finally went on an official tour together, and later in the year they were joined by Joni Mitchell. They duetted during many of those shows, but they never quite captured the intimate magic they shared that day in Greece.

Hey Tragos! Glad he finally made it back to your region.
Long overdue.

Are you at the other Greek show too?

Very nice of you to ask . But it's not very likely , i'm afraid . Because not only would it cost 39 for the ticket , 'bout 50 or more to travei there and back again plus a place to stay which i'm guessing would be expensive too .. but also because i'm sort of giving exams these days , and the next lesson is june 25 . So if i went on the road 21 to 23 i seriously doubt i'd find time to study ..
However , i'm thinking i just might do it anyway, seeing two shows would be too amazing. We shall see.

If there's anything I know about the old exam vs road/money problem, it's that the road always wins!

I think it's like the saying, 'Make hay while the sun shines.' It's shining for you right now, Tragos!

I seems like the Bob window of opportunity doesn't knock much there...and who knows when it will again?

A no-brainah decision. Study your ass off & make it happen.

Your ER Family will be so proud of you!

Good luck in your choice. If you need help deciding let us know.

Dear Tragos

I know you haven't made your mind up yet....

But Bob's not getting any younger, and who knows when he'll come back to Greece. Get thee to the second show!! Sleep on someone's couch!

Yes, I recall a Rager on-the-fence once. Was it the correct thing to do Rage?

For a millisecond there, Sphere, I thought the bottom showed a Dylan tour poster.

^ Bad news . First of all , this beautiful place is not where Bobby will be playing . This is the herodium theatre , it would be perfect for him and his theatrics , but he's playing in terra vibe stage which looks like this

http://www.facetivals.com/uploads/venue ... 4171/1.jpg

Really nice , but nowhere as special .

Also , i'm afraid i won't be going to thessaloniki tommorrow . I tried but it's impossible .
However , seeing him once is still very special to me , perhaps too special one might say , and i can say that i am happy , without using the world lightly . :D

Lastly , you guys rock . Thanks for everything .

On a second thought , i kinda like it that he'll be playing in terra vibe , because there i'll probably be able to go first row , very close to Dylan and his band , and observe the expressions on Dylan's face .

Can you post "noodle" when the lights dim so that we can cue up a recent show and follow along?
No pressure Tragos...enjoy!

The Terra Vibe looks like an easy venue.
Condolences regarding Thessaloniki...
