Does anyone know the purpose is of the yellow pedal/lap steel type instrument in front of Bob's keyboard? It's been there since he started playing the keys in the 2000s, sometimes even used to lay song lyric papers on top of. It could be a spare for the steel player...but then why put it in front of the keyboard?? :? If anyone has an idea i'd love to know.

Same question: tambourine on the piano.

By the way, when was the last time that Bob played the guitar (in concert, of course)?
I checked some dates on http://www.boblinks.com and it looks like the last mention of "Bob on guitar" was on November 9th 2012, but I didn't check every set list.
Is this the correct date?
Has he said anything about why he doesn't play it anymore/at the moment? Does it seem like there is a real reason or just "Bob being Bob"?

Why is there a pedal steel on the stage? Why is there a keyboard on the stage? Why are there mirrors on the stage? Why has he played the same set for a month before playing that crazy sets in Rome?

I guess it could just be "Bob being Bob". Now that I think about it I myself have a band and at one point wanted to have my accordion sit there on the stage. Not to be played, but just a strange prop I suppose. That's most likely what he's doing.

In Düsseldorf this year (I think it was Düsseldorf) he took it during the break between two songs and "played" it for a few seconds. But he didn't actually use it during a song. I think it's there just to be prepared for whatever may come.

In Hannover it was, in Düsseldorf it was too, but was removed a few minutes before the beginning of the show. In Amsterdam there was no guitar.

The pedal steel used to hold the lyric sheets when Bob was still playing keyboard.

There was no guitar for him at the Amsterdam and Milano shows.

I'm curious as to why the keyboard is still there every night. He hasn't played it once this year.

Yes he did, in Hamburg. I don't remember on what song. I saw him playing it during the show, but from where i was, i could not hear him. But there's a DVD of that show where you can see and hear.

In Bridgeport during the changeover after Wilco, the thing got knocked off the stage and landed between the rail. They hauled it up, extended the one retracted leg, and put it back in place. Don't think it's good for anything.

To make it harder to see him and give him further clutter to hide behind.

Ah so Bob has actually played it then :). I guess he couldn't bare to be without it every show if he has a sudden change of heart.

Only Dylan knows... I think maybe is for check tones or something like that... but he never do it!

I remember in Barcelona 2004 he played a few chords with an acoustic guitar in Watctower (these days he never played guitar), he tried to play guitar and keyboard at the same time... A very strange thing... Only Dylan knows...

I saw that George didnt have the tambo hi hat device anymore. He used to play it a lot & keep time especially on songs like "blind Willie". Now Bobs got that tambo on the piano. I think he told George he wants to break out on the tambo so you can't play it. I remember someone was joking the next instrument bob would play live was drums, tambo is percussion so he's proving he can play any instrument. Maybe next some sort of brass instrument.

The guitar was there for Rome as well, both nights. But it wasn't tuned, so I assume it was there for decorative purposes only, much like the tambourine, small keyboard, mirrors, Oscar and, based on his volume in the sound mix, Charlie Sexton at times...

I'm sure I've seen the roadies tune the Pedal Steel in front of Bob's keyboard before...

The Bootleg is out there somewhere of him 'playing' the pedal steel in 2005, although as I recall he literally only played one note. There was a hilarious review of a Dylan show a while back in one of the major British papers (something makes me want to say it was the telegraph) where the reviewer was clearly not that into it - one gets the impression he was stood right at the back paying more attention to the bar - where he states that Bob was in an awful mood with the crowd, never talked once and hid at the side of the stage playing pedal steel for the entire concert.

I guess it's probably a way to hide the fact that Bob need to use lyric sheets. If it were a proper music stand then it would be really obvious, but with the pedal steel it's not really that noticeable except to the hardcore fans in the front row.

In Paris 13/11/2013 there was no little keyboard, no pedal steel (in front of Bob), no Oscar and no tambourine. A heavy Fender style guitar which looked like the one Bob played on Spirit On The Water in Paris in 2011 lay unplayed in front of the bass drum. I didn't notice whether it was tuned.

Been there since about 2004. It's an old fifties, double-neck, fender lap steel if i remember correctly. No pedals on it.
