Does anybody know if the 21 of November really is the last day of the tour? I find it hard to believe only one NYC date. If so, it's very upsetting. I know he tends to end things before the holiday though.

he has played past thanksgiving before, but rarely. 2010 I think he played afterwards into New England after doing Terminal 5.

I don't know anything else about NYC dates though for the fall. I wish.

Maybe they'll but on another show if the first one gets sold out.

There was a rumour about more NYC dates, but it's highly unlikely at this point.

I think it's the only New York date, since Thanksgiving is the 22nd. And he usually doesn't tour after that, but last year he did have a show then didn't he?

I'm going to try and get tickets. It's at the Barclay center, which hasn't even opened yet. I'm seeing Leonard Cohen there in December. I heard there is really limited parking, but I don't think seats are.

I'm not. The place has a capacity of around 15,000, last time Bob played to that many people in or around NYC was in 2002, if my memory serves me well.

Also, in 2006, right after the release of "MT", NYC only got small theater show, and right after "L&T" he only did MSG once, so this is hardly a first.

Okay, I didn't check capacities.... 500 or 5000 or 50000 people behind you hardly matter if you're up front.

yeah, but I guess most would agree that even in NYC more than one show in a 15,000 capacity venue would be a bit of a stretch at this point.

Sure, I mean to do the new album tour as a double header is about the worst idea ever artistically, so maybe he can get back for a few dates at the Beacon next year in the fall.

Were the three London concert at Hammersmith last year not scheduled right after the tour had just begun? I remember those questions about no shows in London and then they were added. Maybe it's the same "strategie" this time, too. Beacon or something?

Might be, could be.... last year's fall tour work very well in terms of sales strategy, if nothing else.

Not sure what "artistically" means in this context, however, from the early reports we got it seems that Dylan is keen for the album to make impact, so playing to a lot of people who would usually not go see him (the Knopfler crowd plus the folks drawn in because it's two legends for the price of one) makes sense from the promotional point of view.

Some of the Uninitiated probably will pick up the new album just to "be prepared" for the show. It's those extra units that might make the difference between a top ten and a number one album.

As far as "artistically" is concerned: We'll have to wait and see what kind of set he plays this Fall, but my first thought was: Smart idea, shortened set means he only has to play two or three new ones without anyone getting suspicious. Gives him and the band a little more time to get into the new material. It's kind of what they did in 2009 with "TTL". Tried out the odd song on the double headlining summer tour, then played the album out in the Fall. (That they then completely forgot about the album is a different story, of course)

The difference being, that there IS a NYC(-area) show on the schedule this time, and a huge venue it is, too. Not sure if they had added the Hammersmith shows if they'd already booked Wembley or the London O2 on that tour. Plus any added dates would be on Thanksgiving, I believe.

It might turn out he'll "have to" include MK in his sets again to keep people from getting away early - instead of just doing his thing with his band, in the way they do best. I'm pretty sure they ran through the new songs during rehearsals before the summer tour already, so the work on that won't only start just then. There were several soundchecks this tour when no-one could figure what they were playing, so those may have been new ones, too.

New ones at soundchecks? How 1978 of them!

Why not, you know? It's the best time to try things, really.

If they did this at outdoor venues, I'd still be surprised, given the total lack of unreleased songs at the shows in the past two decades.
