bob's music is really excellent, but it's just music; there is lots of music

there is no need to put bob or anybody else on a ridiculous pedestal

Mozart hasn't been surpassed. Much like Shakespeare. Much like Dylan. It's ok. Time eats them and eats us, but we can still be unsurpassable in our individuality and greatness.

And that song you posted is a great message but ironically discusses not taking legends name in vein , it should not happen - it does here. I'd agree with lots of what you say about Bob Dylan in 2012, it's only the ridiculous anti-agenda and foul mouthed rants I'd disagree with. Whatever people say to me, it's not dark yet.

There is no pedestal here, just something wonderful still happening , I say enjoy it or let others enjoy it and enjoy that you did enjoy it. Then everyone's enjoying themselves :D

I said it so many times and I like to say it again. True art is not a competition. It has it's own life and doesn't need to be analyzed or defended or anything like that. It lives on and on without all that crap.

If that works for you and if that what you feel you need to do I feel it is right for you. You are so very much into to music world and I am not so I think that is where we differ quite a bit. I am in no way intending to put Mr Dylan down or minimise his greatness and importance in no way. I KNOW he is a very special and talented musician, poet and writer. I just don't think I have to confirm it day in and day out, if you know what I mean. I feel that sometimes enough is enough, but then we might not have anything more to talk about over here so I guess the show must go on...

thats a new concept, close the forum, too many glowing reviews. move on to more important things, like going around checking the internet for peeps putting other peeps way up on mountain of musical pedestals.

wayne newton from what i gather sits drinking margaritas atop his throne over at waynenewton. com. maybe someone can go over there knock him down and bring the tequila over here to me.

He is huge to you. I am sure he would take a step back if you said that to him. Some people like him, some people don't. There are all kinds of nyances. I have friends that sometimes talked not so nice about him one year just to turn up and adore him another year. I see him as one of us. Just like you and me. Sometime just as full of irony as Bennyboy....maybe he even has fungus between a toe? Huge on stage... I hope for his sake it is true, that he still can keep a huge audience spellbound. Good for him, but remember at the same time He is only one of us. I can not emphazise it enough, that behind all the shows and all that, there is a man who might be looking for answers just as much as you and me? If his fans and the world only could separate the showman, from the private Bob, he could breathe in and out easier I think, without somebody monitoring him and measuring the oxygen, you know...but I know that is only wishful thinking. That ain't gonna happen in a million years. He'll remain the mystique and the legend to most people for the rest of his life.

Have them have a physical first, to see if they are in enough good shape to be knocked down. Oh I'd be more than happy to knock Bobby down. I just have to wait ..... when he doesn't see it's coming you know.... I just have to check with his doctor first..........

[quote="tellmemomma1966"]bob dylan has been culturally irrelevant for decades.

Just to make goombay happy I wanna point out that I don't agree with the sentence above. I think Bob has always been very much culturally relevant and will always be a big part in today's culture. He may not draw as big crowds as in the 60ties but he is very much culturally relevant. Poor thing.

I said poor thing because it makes me think about the song where he feels he is in a painting hanging in the Louvre...oh how sad...who deserves such a destiny? That must suck?

Did you knock him down yet goomy? (I bet my left pinkie that Bennyboy is gonna catch up on this one fast and "Goomy" which is a fun loving nick-name, is gonna become "gloomy" soon?)

Bennyboy is only one step behind
of the persecuter within.........

You should only put people up on pedal steels if they can play them.

And its fine line between being culturally significant and mould in a petri dish.

Maybe Bennyboy should move to a country where everybody is the same. Dressed the same. Eat the same food. Listens to the same music and so forth? Would he stop crying then? I doubt it.

maybe benny does work for the pedestal police, and not without good reason sometimes... on the run makes some good points about that, but would you say it is ok to put the art up on a pedestal, instead of bob, who few know well i guess. if you can call his work a "gift", it has probably been a blessing and a curse, at times. i don't know about great things lasting though, seems like things are spinning so fast, lot's of things will get buried and lost forever to chaos- gee, what a downer i am sometimes :)
