Allright, I know this is nonsense ..

Just come to realize how much I miss the feeling :

When they just hit the stage for the first one or two songs, where everything is confusion. What is Bob wearing, whos in the band, What guitars are Charlie playing, which song have they just started, will there be surprises ... Are they playing Leopard-skin-Pill or RDW just now? and last but not least.. The happy and confident grin of Tony Garnier. This guy just comes off as the most sympathetic guy in showbizz...

It is a very good feeling, one of the best I know. I know what you mean about the grin too. My eyes usually fixed on Bob, but quickly flicking back and forward to Tony to see his expression.. good times.

Ooh yeah. The buildup before they walk out. The excitement when the night's first note is hit. "Honey, I'm home!"

It never gets old. Like seeing good friends again (corny, I know). I'm always thrilled to see Bob and the band.

Hop farm will be the second time I'll have seen the opening show of a leg... they always seem more fun and up in the air with the band working out the arrangements...

It's not impossible, it happened with Watchtower.

I never saw the opening show of a tour.

If fact "Mr Jones WAS the opening song for Denny Freeman's last few shows and then was moved to the end of the line when Charlie joined. Using opening songs as set closers is a longstanding Bob tradition. I'm sure I miss out of quite a few, but the ones below all have opned and closed shows (or at least closed the main set)

Mr Jones
Watchtower
Mobile
Not Fade Away
Rolling Stone
Highway 61
Pillbox
RDW
Times
Tangled
Silvio
Maggies

^ do you have any of those dates of Denny's last shows? I presume end of August 2009?

Denny's last show was Stateline, NV on August 16, 2009.

"Mr Jones" opened all shows from August 9 to 16, in Albuqurque, Lake Elsinor, Stockton, F***no and Stateline.

For Charlie's debut in Seattle six weeks later "Mr Jones" was moved to the end and "Gonna Change My Way Of Thinking" was the new opener.

Althiough I'm really into shaking up the setlist, I think "Mr Jones" was an excellent closing number for the last three years, it's just a shame that it's now buried in the last quarter, seemingly by accident, not by design.

I've always thought those openers were for Denny. Regardless, the two versions I have (8/9 & 8/16) are great. Denny solos on each.

I'd like to see him pick something that he's never opened with before, even if it's a cover.
